Why is Columbus trading Jiricek?

I know nothing about the guy except he was a high first rounder.

He wants to play now. He is not ready! His skating and some fine tuning defensively are identified problems. Likely his agent is pushing for him to play and Columbus is pushing back.

Obviously Rodriguez starts are not quite as good, but you know what, maybe there actually is a player there.

The other interesting comparison I think would be Skinner himself, honestly, who had sightly worse stats at the same age with a better condors team when he graduated.

Yeah fair enough. I mean Wolf is looking like the high water mark at this point and if he gets there you're laughing all the way to the finals.

I don't expect him to be like Wolf - just was trying to give an idea of what best case translation looks like.

My concern about Jiricek is that he's going to be paired with Nurse. Nurse seems to do well with guys that can skate well and move the puck. Ideally, he would play with someone like Shea Theodore but I dont see that type of player available. If that's not possible, he has done well with Kulk as his partner who still skates well but is more of a two way guy who is steady defensively but has untapped offence. I'm not sure Jiricek sounds like either of those types of players.

Unless Bouchard stops playing like shit now and actually plays like an $11M player the rest of the way he doesn't get to be firm on $11M. If he keeps playing like this he isn't getting that from anyone even if we move him.

He's on pace for ~60 points and is top ten league wide analytically by virtually every category. He's not playing like shit. He's not playing at the level he was last year yet, but ECHL goaltending behind him certainly isn't helping anything.

He's playing like shit. The power play has gone to shit and he is a big part of that. You can choose to ignore the constant 10 bell f*** ups that occur for no real reason other than laziness if you want, but I won't.

I have all the time in the world for analytics, but sometimes they don't tell the whole story. He's like the rest of the team - doesn't show up until at least December so I'm confident that he'll get back in gear, but as of now, he's playing like shit.

The analytics do a much better job capturing what's going on than the average ding dong that only actually pays attention five minutes a period. Bouchard is a high event player that creates a ton more than he gives up.

People call Draisaitl lazy too, and they're every bit as stupid as the ones that call Bouchard lazy.

You can pretend that Bouchard was working his bag off for each of his airhead mistakes over the past few weeks, but it's pretty obvious that isn't and hasn't been the case. Leon has been lazy at times also over his career.

Believe it or not it is possible to recognize a player's ability and talent level in a macro sense, but be frustrated with them when certain players take games or weeks off.

I trust the analytics far more than the overemotional fan pounding the armrest of their chair and throwing beer cans because he thinks an NHL player that's playing 26 minutes a night should be pumping their legs at all times.

You want to know why Bouchard is getting shots blocked? Because other teams coaches are recognizing the weapon for what it is and game planning around it. That takes adjustment for a young player, which is what Bouchard still is. Still, hilariously, despite mouth breathers thinking that he's been terrible and not getting shots through, he's pacing for a career high in goals.

He's still playing well, still producing, still has great underlying numbers. That's more than I can say for some members of this team, but there are members of this fanbase that hate every defenceman with an iota of creativity and offense in their game. That type of fan deserved the Kris Russell years.
