Unfortunately we have to rely on Mr. Schwartkoff to rebuild Skinner's mind at this point.

Stuart could have been and still could be a quality backup. Consistency was always a battle but his mechanics are fairly good.

Who cares if he addresses your points, when the one HE made is devastating to the argument that Skinner is not a massive liability?
LOL...he was responding to my post and his response was incoherant.
I never made the claim that Skinner wasnt a problem. I never even hinted at it.

My post was entirely about how the team got into this goaltending mess in the first place.
Thats all.

Maybe he was a big Jack Campbell fan that was troubled by the reality that it was Campbells incompetence that started this goaltending mess.
More accurately it was Holland that started this mess by signing Campbell.
A starting goalie so shitty that despite signing a 5 year $5M per season deal he was only able to play 41 games before they had to kick his ass out the door.

...and because Jack Campbell was too shitty to be an NHL goalie.

Jack Campbell is well and gone. Current management should not have been fooled into thinking Skinner was a capable starter. He was far too uneven last year and nearly single-handedly choked away the series vs the Canucks.

They had the cap to address getting a capable goalie this off-season.

At the end of the day I think that we are on the same page.

The problem for me was that this team (previous management group) thought it was a good idea to throw Skinner to the wolves in his rookie season.

So they start with the Campbell debacle and waste a ton of badly needed cap space and then compound that debacle by annointing Skinner as the solution.

Then (over the course of the next 2 years) they stubbornly tried to make that work (and adding uneeded players like Jeff Skinner this season) instead of actually fixing the areas that needed fixing.
Like the starting goalie position.

That is the very essense of incompetence IMO.

His mechanics are not fairly good.

Positionally he’s average and his save selection in terms of how he chooses to face and stop shots is amongst the worst.

His crease movement is horrendous to the point where I don’t think he’s even capable of pushing off the post.

From about the middle of last year i would agree with this.

Gibson’s injury proneness scares me. Lots of talk earlier in the day he’d waive for the Oilers, so seeing he got the start tonight, having a pair of scouts at the game would stoke the rumour fire a bit.
Our pro scouting has been nothing short of pathetic.
There has been so much variation in Gibson's game: do you (should our GM) trust what they see and are able to interpret?

According to Pierre LeBrun; Johnny Gibson is willing to waive his No-Trade clause for Edmonton Oilers.

What do you think about that?

Considering Skinner is statistically rhe worse starting goalie in the league, it's an upgrade. But that's not saying much. Gibsons numbers aren't great but he's stuck in Anaheim where he gets peppered with shots often. Considering starters are obviously not often available if he's the best you can do with half retained you do it. Literally cannot be worse.

Would be awesome...and we would finally see how good our team is with an actual NHL goalie...or we will see how bad our defensive system is when he also shits the bed like many others before.

When I saw the thread title I thought it was a done deal, but it’s not. Fake news.
Me too and I was pretty excited about it. Not so much because I think Gibson is a good goalie but because a change would prove the Oilers are aware they have a problem and are interested in addressing it. Kind of like what they did last year with Campbell. But alas, still no evidence that this is the case. Shame on the OP, whoever he is. I’ve never seen him on this board before.
