Yeah he did, behind probably one of the best teams of the cap era. That team was an absolute buzzsaw, something we saw firsthand. They scored at will, something we currently cannot do.

Pickard is "better", but only marginally so. I bring up Schwartz because he's the goalie scout. There's a reason goaltending has been so bad for so long. He's it.
Would be neat if we had Wallstedt in the pipeline.

Maybe. Didn’t Dostal goalie us and we were all like who’s this kid and why’s he so good.
Dostal has been goalieing us for years. We were one his first nhl wins I believe. I certainly. Remember 2-3 years ago playing him and he stole the f***ing show.

Kuemper won a cup.

Not sure why you keep bring up Schwartz. He's awful. We know that. Pickard is still playing better than Stuart and he's doing exactly what a backup is supposed to do. Stuart sucks with or without Schwartz

Mike Smith and Talbot. All were good and miles better than Stuart
Terrible argument. Skinner was 2 goals away from winning the cup. Would you say the same about him if the oilers managed to score 2 more goals last year?

So you are advocating to acquire a player that is a professional making $6.4M a year has no motivation to try? If any player has no motivation to try, then I don't want them in any circumstance.
Yes because he wants to go to a Cup Contender. Won't that motivate him? Anaheim is willing to retain salary on him and, if Skinner is moved for him, it would help in evening out salary. So why not give it a chance?

You can make an argument that with better goaltending, we'd have 2 cups. One good series against Dallas doesn't erase the other bad or subpar series in 2 years

There's liking a player and then there's those that back Nuge to the end. I swear McDrai take more flack than Nuge.

There's a reason some jokingly call him Teflon Nuge.
He's been an absolute soldier for this organization. Been put through the ringer with so many different coaches and managers. Been through the worst years and has never even mumbled a word of complaint.

He's been praised by every coach that he's had. He's been moved all over the lineup. He's a good penalty killer and has been an integral part of one of the leagues best powerplays for years. He probably could have signed for more money on then open market but chose to stay in Edmonton.

He should absolutely be a career Oiler, imo.

Because as we're seeing with the offseason acquisitions, coming to a cup contender does not guarantee motivation.

You could make an argument that if Oilers management didn't have their heads permanently shoved up their ass we'd be in the middle of a dynasty. Instead we've endured years of alsoran coaches, horrendous drafting, bad trades, poor scouting, and complete organizational incompetence. Had we not won the draft lottery in 2015 this team is probably looking to be relocated.

But that doesn't make Gibson any less brutal. His GAA has been >3 for most of the last five years in addition to health concerns.

Goaltending is still a different beast as goalies tend to blend in with the systems around them. It took YEARS for Bobrovsky to be the goalie Florida thought he would be when he was brought in.
Hard to have a good GAA on a bottom feeder. Injury issues I agree.

What does it have to do with Stuart? Was he some all star before we drafted him?

It’s one good series now? He won Vancouver for us after a bad start and he was great in the finals. Pretty sure he was good against LA as well.

We lost to the cup winners the last 3 years.

This has to be a troll job. The Oilers would have beaten Vancouver in 5 games if not for Skinner. And he wasn't good in the Finals, not to mention the cup winning goal was a horrific but classic Skinner goal. The guy has been awful in the playoffs. Pulled multiple times, in the playoffs. And a team that makes it to game 7 of the finals with a goalie who goes .901 through the playoffs? That shows a team that made it that far despite their goalie.

Then why haven't the Oilers made it before Skinner was around? You can't blame him entirely for everything then discount when he does things well. If Skinner was as horrific as people say then we're cooked by the Kings. He was fine during the Finals. You know what killed us there? Our inability to score.

Also without Skinner we don't get past Dallas. Period.

Skinner won us the Vancouver series like a 12 year old takes the family to Disney Land wtf lol. 😂

In the finals he wasn't really a huge factor positively, and he wasn't really particularly good either; posted a .905 game 7, .952 game 6 (we scored 6, Florida only had 2.6 xGF), .906 game 5, .970 game 4 (we scored 8, Florida only had 1.3 xGF), .826 game game 3, .833 game 2, and an .882 game 1.

He was literally garbage tier in three games, then below average in two games, and in two games he had an easy night where he wasn't tested and we dominated Florida.

Oilers and the goalie conversation every November/December. This shit dates back two decades. Even Rollie used to take heat.
Grant Fuhr was the last decent goalie the Oilers drafted and developed. Their track record between the pipes is horrific and very obviously an organization issue that they have yet to address.

It’s embarrassing that we poke holes in your argument?

No one is saying he’s a good hockey player, we’re just poking holes in your pathetic attempt at an argument.

You and drive like to throw out statements, get proven wrong and then change the argument, the funny part is even after changing it twice you’re still wrong.

You’re aware this stuff is easy to look up and verify right?
Again, you don't have to cape for the team over everything, they do things wrong they have bad players.

Not sure why you don't understand this.

He single handedly put us in an 0-3 hole to start the SCF

If it weren't for Skinner the Oilers would have lost to the Kings? lol, what? In 3 of the 5 games against the Kings, he had a sub-900 save %, one of which being .808. And in the three games starting against Florida, he couldn't put up a save % above .900. In the Stanley Cup Finals.

It's a miracle the Oilers were able to come back from that hole and bring it to game 7. Sure, he had two good games after that, but he already sewered his performance. And that is classic Skinner. He will play like an AHL goalie for stretches, and then have a good game or two and some people think that's proof he's a good starting goalie.

That's not what I said. I'm saying if Skinner was as bad as you guys paint him out to be we don't even make it out of the first round.

I couldn't give a damn about sv% when the team mustered 5 goals in the 4 losses in the series. Blaming the series loss entirely on him is utterly ridiculous when the team scored 1 goal or less in 3 of the 4 losses.

That Oilers team dominated the Kings. Baba Soothsayer could have won that series in net.

And even if the Oilers didn't score a lot in the Finals, they would have needed 3, 4 and 5 goals to win those first three games. Against the Panthers. In the Stanley Cup Finals.

He won Vancouver for us? In what world. They won despite him. The skinner delusion is crazy.

Skinner is as bad as we say. It's a compliment to how frightenly good the team was last year.

Skinner was 51st in GSAx/60 last year. Yeah.
