Bouchard won’t cost anywhere near the $10M Stauffer was projecting either. At the rate of his current brain dead play this year he will be lucky to get $7M.
That would still be too much for that clown. Trade him at the deadline for a real defenceman before you get suckered in to a Nurse-like albatross contract.

I don't think that whether he played pro or not is a big issue. The real question is: Is their any evidence that he has a positive influence on the players he coaches? Truthfully, I don't really know squat about goaltending but from a naive perspective results don't seem to suggest that his tenure is justified.
Totally agree, especially about the part about not knowing the ins and outs of goaltending (and goal coaching). I will say that the Oilers need to make their position clear to that coach: “you’re not making a difference or the type of improvement we need, and after 5 (6?) years of this, we need to move on”. Challenged to show results, I think he concedes.

Can't believe people want Rodrigue to be called up and played.

Just run with Picks for a few games.
Why wouldn’t you want to bring him up for a test run? Rodrigue has been developing and putting up good results. Our starter is struggling and our backup is nothing more than a solid backup. Why not see what the new guy can do? It’s not like goaltending hasn’t already been costing us games with Skinner’s struggles. And sends a message to Skinner that whatever he’s doing. It’s not nearly good enough.

I guess we have no choice but to call up Rodrigue and throw him into the fire espically with Nurse out. It's funny how often it's thought that some AHLer is going to come in and save the day and we are going to go on a tear because of them.

I am not advocating for Skinner, but just don't think Rodrigue is the answer either.

We are also 7-3-1 in our last 11, yet people are acting like we are 1-7-3 and sitting at the bottom of the league far out of the playoffs and really do have nothing to lose at this point.

Here is the heat map for the Oilers 5 vs 5 defense this year.

Here is the heat map for their 5 vs 5 offense.

Man the heat maps tell such an incredible story.

The heat maps on top of our league low 8.42 HDCA/60, tell a very compelling story. You add our top 3 xGA/60 at 2.57 to that, and our elite shot suppression/possession metrics...

And then you add our league worst GSAX, bottom 3 save percentage to that...

Really impossible to make a coherent argument that Skinner isn't the problem.

There need to be questions. If he’s being kept around because of some form of nepotism…

I can’t fathom any reasonable excuse that he’s still employed.
Even the way that all the media here jumps to his defense is bizarre. The only good goalies the Oilers have had under his tenure have been guys that either have hade their own external coaches, or guys that come here fresh out of another system and then have their games degrade consistently over time under his 'tutelage'.

You have some people twisting themselves into a pretzel trying to say It not mainly the goalie. Entertaining

Sometime a picture is better than a 1000 words or even 100 stats. :)

I'd at least try Rodrigue. He's had a .929 in the AHL so far this year. Can he be worse than Skinner? I doubt it.
Does he need waivers to go back down though? I don’t think we are at that point yet but it may get there if one of these guys doesn’t start to play significantly better.

It's like its not just the difficult shots he's not stopping, even the simple shit beats him.

Have no idea what Bowman is thinking riding this tandem

I'm ok riding them to the deadline as long as we get an upgrade there.

Be great practice, if we can keep our ga down with Skinner we will be impossible to score on with a real goaltender.

Would like it if the Oil could somehow get Olivier out of Columbus.
Man is tough as nails and can play a bit ... Nice 4th line player.
Team is too soft now that our PP is not very punitive.
Obviously money needs to go out ...

Rodrigue doesn't really have to save the day though.

If he comes up and manages a .900 SV%, he helps the team.
