His recent press junket of “not caring” about his stats looks extra hilarious now. If he cared at all about his craft he’d tell the team he needs time away to rebuild his game with someone that isn’t Dustin Schwartz, which would force Bowman to at least do something.

Instead though Stu is going to continue insisting it’s bad luck and that he’s super duper good at what he does.
He does care otherwise he wouldn’t have had a temper tantrum when a goal got scored on him in garbage time.

Whilst I 100% agree that Schwarz's tenure with the Oilers is far past its expiration date, the premise that individual skill as a player is relevant to skill as a coach just doesn't hold water. If that were true, Wayne Gretzky should have been the greatest coach in the history of the NHL and coaches like Paul Maurice or Barry Trotz would be relegated to coaching pee-wee.
I get that skill doesn’t equate to teaching/coaching, that has been proven over and over in multiple leagues.

Schwartz never playing at a pro level is where I’d have trouble taking him seriously, especially when the results are proven over and over goalies get worse under him. Smith clearly thought he was a dunce, got his own guy and his numbers got better. Guys like Trotz and Maurice worked their way up through the ranks, Schwartz was with the Oil Kings for 4 years and jumped to the NHL.

I don't think that whether he played pro or not is a big issue. The real question is: Is their any evidence that he has a positive influence on the players he coaches? Truthfully, I don't really know squat about goaltending but from a naive perspective results don't seem to suggest that his tenure is justified.

I think it is time to call up Olivier Rodrigue. He is proving he is ready to be tested in NHL hockey. He has 2.33 GAA and a 0.929 save percentage. This would send a message to Stuart Skinner. It may also help them realize that maybe they have a good goaltender just waiting

The immediate upgrade available right now is simply making Pickard the starter.

Rodrigue was trash in pre-season but goalies are voodoo so I wouldn't be opposed to finally giving him a shot... but the Oilers organization has historically been so stingy when it comes to giving their own G prospects a shot. They would rather go with repeated bandaid fixes
Lol how does preseason define a player fully? McDavid and Leon were trash in preseason were theynot?

Silovs has a .920 in the AHL and a .850% in the NHL this season. It's really a different animal getting called up to play, wasn't Rodrigue also really bad during the preseason?

You understand there’s a difference between AHLers trying to make the team and NHLers who have a spot locked down no matter how hard they play

He was, but in the last 24 hours we have seen Skinner hit a new rock bottom geologists didn’t know existed previously. We need to try anything else at this point, and I can see the argument for giving the internal guy a look before a trade. Just make a f***ing move, Bowman.

Bouchard won’t cost anywhere near the $10M Stauffer was projecting either. At the rate of his current brain dead play this year he will be lucky to get $7M.
Doesn't deserve more than Fox, McAvoy, Makar or even Seider ($8.55M).
I get they were signed different years, but that should be an easy cap.
We are all pissed off at him today, but he's still a very effective player.

I wonder if something like Skinner for Varlamov might interest Lou? They basically have the same contract. Varlamov having an off year but a career 916%.
