You're likely not going to get a #1 top 15 goalie, but perhaps could trade for one of these? You probably wait until early 2025 to see if Skinner rebounds but either way you need some insurance.

Potential guys below:

Cam Talbot? Will be a seller

Dostal? Unlikely to move him. Gibson more likely but he has poor numbers for the past few years.

Ingram? Numbers are worse than Skinner this year

Blackwood? What version are you getting of him? San Jose don't have a retained slot, so would need to filter through third party, inreasing ost.

Markstrom? Wonder if they would be enticed by Skinner + 2nd for Markstrom

Mzarek? Could give you average, would need retained salary

Husso? Expiring contract butt 2 bad years in Detroit.

Any other candidates? Slim pickings.

Before any talk of trading Skinner, I think the coaching staff has to communicate they aren't happy with his play and then you run the other goalie 3-4 games in a row and tell him this is time to reset himself and if he doesn't return with improved play then you start earnestly consider switching things up.

A lot of goalies seem to find that extra gear only when they come to a spot that they feel their job is in jeopardy.
---------------------------------------------------

Derek Ryan isn't doing enough out there, seems to be clearly below a replacement level player, time to see what we have in Philp.

---------------------------------------

Knoblauch isn't getting the best out of J. Skinner, we are getting pretty close to a point where we should be looking to do a swap with for another struggling player. If we can swap for Hall at 50% retained I'm down, while he's a shell of his former offensive prowess and his defensive game is still questionable, at bare minimum he has chemistry with 3 centers on our team and that's more than I can say for Skinner.

Talbot/Skinner/Pickard honestly wouldn't be bad. I mean yeah sure I would love to have Dwayne Roloson circa 2006 here, but if that type of add is not available you could do a lot worse I think.

You gotta figure one of the three at some point gets hot and that's probably all that's needed. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

I'm at the waive Skinner phase of my disgust.

Skinner’s numbers are almost as bad as Campbell’s last season… And we all know what happened with Campbell.

On a side note, it’s absolutely ludicrous that Schwartz still has a job here. Literally every goalie who has played here with him as goalie coach has gone downhill fast. I think the only one who didn’t decline a bunch was Smith as he was set in his ways and probably laughed at Schwartz.

The one area I will give Woodcroft credit for and one area I think he's better than Knob at is I think he'd get more out of a Jeff Skinner.

I remember when Evander Kane was kinda acting up about being demoted down the lineup and Woody didn't take the bait from the media and instead stood up for Kane and said he liked it when a player acted like that, because they should want to play up in the lineup. And Kane played after that.

Knob isn't really like that, he'll just demote you down the lineup if you don't play how he wants, which is fair enough, but it's probably not the best tact with some players. Kane played better under Woody.

Markstrom kinda played like dog poop tonight. Though Hamilton kinda helped him look that way.

He did bring in his own guy I think in his last season, if that wasn’t an indictment on Schwartz, the guy has immunity and a job for life.

It just baffles me how a guy who got lit up in the WHL and was decent at the CIAU level is somehow coaching pros.

Whilst I 100% agree that Schwarz's tenure with the Oilers is far past its expiration date, the premise that individual skill as a player is relevant to skill as a coach just doesn't hold water. If that were true, Wayne Gretzky should have been the greatest coach in the history of the NHL and coaches like Paul Maurice or Barry Trotz would be relegated to coaching pee-wee.

Doesn't J Skinner have a NMC? I doubt he'd waive. He signed here for the sole purpose of winning the cup. And why would Chicago retain 50%.

Outside of McDavid and Draisaitl the top three point producers are Bouchard, Ekholm, and Nurse. With Kulak close to jumping into sixth, WTF is going on with this forward group this year? We all expected Hyman to regress and Nuge to be a 65+ point guy. But everyone has been extremely flat out of the gate.

I looked up the stats for the Oilers goalies and the opposition goalies they face...

When Skinner is in net... he's faced 26.62 shots/60 and has a save pct of 87.66%
The opposition goalies when Skinner is in net face 32.86 shots/60 and their save pct is 91.62%

When Pickard is in net... he's faced 22.60 shots/60 and has a save pct of 88.97%
The opposition goalies when Pickard is in net face 33.26 shots/60 and their save pct is 92.59%

So when Skinner is in net, the workload for opposition goalies is an additional 6.24 shots/60 and they save 3.96% more shots.

When Pickard is in net, the workload for opposition goalies is an additional 10.66 shots/60 and they save 3.62% more shots.

It really is remarkable how much more workload opposing goalies get and how much better they are at saving those shots coming at them than this Oilers goalie tandem.

The cap is tentatively suppose to be $92.5M next year but Friedman is reporting that it may be in the $95-97M range due to the high revenues the League has had. At $95M this would give the Oilers some breathing room next year. At $97M they would be able to add a significant player to the mix. If they have a better picture of how likely the number might be closer to the trade deadline it may influence their plans.

The immediate upgrade available right now is simply making Pickard the starter.

Rodrigue was trash in pre-season but goalies are voodoo so I wouldn't be opposed to finally giving him a shot... but the Oilers organization has historically been so stingy when it comes to giving their own G prospects a shot. They would rather go with repeated bandaid fixes

I'd at least try Rodrigue. He's had a .929 in the AHL so far this year. Can he be worse than Skinner? I doubt it.

Bouchard won’t cost anywhere near the $10M Stauffer was projecting either. At the rate of his current brain dead play this year he will be lucky to get $7M.

DPS must stand for Department of Pieces of Shit because it’s certainly not Department of Player Safety.

Premeditated head hunting by known and branded head hunters on top players in vulnerable positions was supposed to be suspended into the ether but in the NHL a 3 or 4 game slap on the wrist to a player who might get 4 minutes a night of playing time is known as “justice”.

Reason 35,951 why I am losing interest in this shitbox of a league.

This org needs to be banged in the noggin to be pro active at anything

Like how they might force a dman move now since Nurse will be out. They are forced to do things

Now at the point where I just want to see a monumental Skinner collapse to force them into doing things. They aren't intelligent enough otherwise. Just ho hum status quo is fine.

Not to mention the absolute corrupt officiating. I watched most of the game on the PVR. These shitbags just ignore stuff anybody would call.

His recent press junket of “not caring” about his stats looks extra hilarious now. If he cared at all about his craft he’d tell the team he needs time away to rebuild his game with someone that isn’t Dustin Schwartz, which would force Bowman to at least do something.

Instead though Stu is going to continue insisting it’s bad luck and that he’s super duper good at what he does.
