Lol good luck on that. International play is all those Europeans dream about. The nhl is just a hobby to keep them in shape for they're country's national team....
A lot of people forget this. Can't paint them all with the same brush, but these Euros get pumped up for the Oylmpics more than a cup and even the shitty tourney that happens. World hockey chmapionships? They treat that like a cup. Remember when Sweden won it? They were parading around as much or more than a cup win there. We don't give 2 shits about that tourney.

Look at Elias Petersson. He said it blunt to Marek and Friedman. "Cup or Olympic gold? Petey sayd Gold

They don't yearn and bleed and want it as much as Canadians do, who grow up their whole lives thinking about it.

You would think there was one guy there that could take all available data and watch a bunch of film and correlate all the number and information and viewings into logical decisions. Either they dont have him or his voice cant be heard in the morass of upper managements wrangling for position and/or leaning on their cups of wine in the status quo.
My impression of Arvie in the LA playoffs was we often physically dominated him. His first couple games in Edmonton, even showed he was often on his snowpants getting pushed around and played a high risk, sacrifice-the-body type game. Likely the Oilers knew these tendencies and his risk of injury and decided to take the gamble anyways.

Well im not sure about number 1 but with another less disturbing move it could be made to work.
And yes im sure there are a few guys here bubbling the opium.
I'm trying to think of who I would prefer of the usual names bandied about. Certainly not Savard or Murphy. Definitely not EK. Might be some better options if we look at LD as Stauff has hinted at. Carrier is a pretty good overall defenseman, and playing right naturally is a big bonus. His biggest hurdle is his salary, and whether Nashville would retain and what that would cost.

If I remember right, you're a big Kovacevic fan. He'd be a nice choice, but I doubt NJ is looking to move him.

You remember correctly. NJD have had Hughes and Pesce come back from injury in early November. They will need to get Simon Nemec some playing time as well. Kovacevic is their best Defensive D. He plays early in games when the other team is going hard. And he plays late in games where NJDs are protecting a lead. But if they are down a goal or two Kovacevic's ice team is cut back. He plays every PK.
I've been harping on about Kovy for almost three years--the trading deadline before we played Vegas--for me it was easy to see how we could be dominated by Vegas D and that our no. 1 D Nurse (remember we didnt have the big swede at the time) could be isolated.
I sure took a beating from this board when i suggested we trade Broberg for him. Even from some logical thinkers like Fourier.

6'5" 223 lbs knows how to use his size. Above average skater, can headman the puck out of zone ( much better than Nurse) can close gaps quickly and knows when to go to the boards and wins more than his share of battles. Doesn't have great vision in Ozone. His hands are good not great so not a top two way guy. But when things tighten up in the playoffs and you need strength and space this is the guy that can help.

Well screwed the pooch on that post somehow.

Like I said, I think he might be a good fit for us, but I don't see why they trade him, even with needing time for Nemec. All the reasons he'd be good for us are why he's valuable to them. And unlike some of the other teams we've been talking about D-men to acquire from, NJ is in the thick of it and unlikely to want to subtract.

You're right though, in hindsight (Not for you obviously) a Broberg for Kovy trade would have been a coup for us. And would have been the right time to pull the trigger too. In fairness, I'm prolly one of those would have been against the move, so I'm not any better.

Nemec is there future no. 1 and has played basically a season in the NHL. He is down working the south side of the puck in the A. He will learn fast and they will want him back up.
Every team has holes. If you hit Jersey at the right time and have something they need...who knows. They paid a 4th '26 for him.

Nashville. Should be selling soon.
There isn't much I want off NSH, obviously there are some big ticket players who could be an upgrade, but I feel our room is pretty tight knit and it would require us shipping out a near equivalent player to offset salary.

Saros doesn't fit into our cap structure and Carrier I've never really had a fondness for, in the duel between him and Fabbro I saw Fabbro as the superior player.

I think what interests me most is they have a big 4th line and I could see one of those guys complimenting what we have, especially if we can get Philp up and running. a 4th line that grind down the opposition and play a heavy game could prove valuable in the playoffs.

So we receive no benefit in terms of accruing cap space, but is there not a benefit in a round-about way, of now being able to carry 13/14 forwards and being able to rest Perry & Ryan more often, instead of being forced to play them, when they are not everyday players? (This in regards to putting Arv on full blown LTIR)
With Kane on LTIR they can already do this. but then they will not be accruing cap space. Putting Arvi on LTIR does not change this.

Ekholm -- Bouch
Nurse -- Carrier
Kulak -- Kovacevic
Emberson

Trotz wants draft capital. We will be competing for Carrier ...probably take 2 2nds.
NJDs will like want a player. They could upgrade their 3LW and Janmark is the style of player they would want.
Nice thing about this D is Kovy could take alot of the Dzone starts. And he can move up and down the line up. He could replace Bouchard when we are playing shut down hockey.

Why is NJ trading a guy playing 20 mins a night for them when they’re comfortably in a playoff spot?

Nemec needs time Maybe another 20 games in the A). They certainly don't want a Jiricek problem. And they need him playing this year as Casey will be coming next year.

I think Kovacevic would be a fantastic add, but its not happening.
At the same time, what is with your obsession with him? I see mostly posts from you always regarding the player.

I agree Edmonton Oilers have no Bill Zito anyways. It a pipe dream for us.
But perhaps a good Gm focuses on what he needs and not on what other GMs want to trade but on something they may not necessarily want to let go...
There of course is a way and a price to that way.

Its his story from junior and the unlikeliness of him making it and a coach recognizing the upside. Winnipeg took a chance on that upside though there was a negative.

you also need 8 NHL-capable defencemen in the playoffs. Devils aren't trading one.
Okay. Remember the pass doesn't always arrive perfectly. Sometimes you have to change your stance/adjust to make the shot.
But your probably right.

Who do you think will be available that would be good for us to get?
Conventionally and easily. Sure keeping thinking like that.
True thats what you have for Oilers management now.

You want to be a Hannibal you have to act like one!

The more I look at the available D this year, the more I just want them to sell the farm for Shesterkin. Who cares if we lose him in FA, a cup is worth it.

There isn't a rumored D available that would make me feel as confident as a significant upgrade in goal would. In the off-season jettison some of the underperforming wingers, run with a top 6 consisting of pairs of McD-Hyman and Drai-Nuge. Fill the forwards out with the Podkolzins of the world and decent vets willing to take a discount. Look at Pittsburgh, they were always able to find cheap F's and D to round out around their stars. Difference between them and us? Stuart Skinner isnt Matt Murray or MA Fleury.

Like I might change my tune if Calgary was open to moving Andersson, but they almost certainly won't. Is Ristolainen, Connor Murphy, or Savard gonna push us over the top? Not effing likely.

I think the cost will be 2 1sts and a good prospect and afterwards I think we will need a mini-retool to restock the cupboards and bring in some youth.

If this line results in a Cup I'm all for it, but I think as the season progresses a more impactful D will be available and maybe 2 other small adjustments for a lower cost than Shesterkin alone.
