You yourself were crying a page ago Crosby, Ovechkin, MacKinnon, Eichel having Cups, do tell how many Cups do you think that group has with .901 and .899 Stuart Skinner in net during their Cup drives?

Zero quite probably. Maaaaaybe that Colorado team that was so loaded out the wazoo that they didn't really need a good goalie, but the others ... they don't win shit.

They win nothing. Nothing for Crosby, nothing for Ovechkin, nothing for Eichel, that's for damn sure.

Those guys all needed outstanding goaltending, not just decent, outstanding to win their Cups.
Those teams also have significantly better management than we do and wouldn't have signed Jack Campbell to his braindead contract to begin with.

There's more to hockey than who ends up on the "Top ten saves of the month" list. Because those don't show you some of the laughers he lets in.

Okay, present a reasonable acquisition target.

.925 from... what?
I just did. Sort that chart out and look above (b/c Skinner is down at the bottom with Georgev and Ingram all of the time)

Any goalie we get (if we get one) will have some bad games. The key is how many bad games compared to good ones?

I come from a more agressive standpoint that Skinner is a lost cause. I will take almost anyone over him.

Give me Blackwood, Gibson, f*** I will take Jake Allen (he is 7th in save%AE. Call Nashville see if they want to dump Saros in a blockbuster. I would beg Cam Talbot to come back if Detroit would trade him. I will take Vladar. I will take Blomqvist

I know goalies are "Voodoo", but watching them play in net, how they move, how they track pucks, how they react is not some science. The eyeballs, if they are working, shows us. Skinner is like playing Russian Roulette in net.

So what? How much better than last year's .901 is Skinner going to be this playoffs?

If the answer to that question is "probably about the same at best" ... then good luck Connor and Leon. You're better off giving *anyone* else a look basically, anyone else who isn't nearly the bottom of the league for GSAA.

Because no chance in hell would Crosby or Ovechkin or Eichel win with that, the ONLY reason the Avs of '22 might is because of their wonky cap situation where they got MacKinnon on a fluke contract. If you put Skinner on the current Avs, they would lose in round 1 easy.

And then Dustin Schwartz rears his ugly head and scouts James Reimer and we're back to square one.

Funny that you compare goalies within teams. Because John Gibson frequently got outperformed by the likes of Anthony Stolarz and Lukas Dostal these past 5 years.

It's not like these are bad goaltenders either, for what is worth. Dostal is arguably the best goaltender in the league, and Stolarz is making Skinner look like a joke this season.

Well yeah I'm sure it will come down some because he plays a on a shit team.

Skinner wouldn't even be in the NHL right now if he was on the Anaheim Ducks. He'd be washed out of the league like Ben Scrivens did.

I'm not sure you understand how good .909 is. The best number from a goalie who played more than 20 games last year was .862. The best number from a goalie who played more than 40 games was .850

My post had nothing to do with Stuart Skinner btw

These are not all equal. Blackwood and Allen (if he's retained) don't completely screw up the rest of your roster. Gibson does. You can't just pretend that doesn't matter.

Why do you always bring up Dustin when somebody replies lol.

I will take a goalie here playing well for 2 years and then getting Dustin'd. It's better than what we have now.
Because he's the goalie scout. He's the reason why we blew our load on Jack Campbell, and the reason that basically every goalie we've acquired since his hiring has gradually turned into shit.

If you want Gibson to have .925 thru 50 games then the Oilers won't be able to afford him. It's that simple
You're gambling on an extremely small sample size when the much larger sample size prior to that would indicate this is a complete mirage.

I actually wouldn't mind taking a flier on some of these low pedigree goalies with solid stats like Dostal/Stolarz/Daccord/Vladar etc. Probably wouldn't cost much in prospect/draft capital either. I just want nothing to do with John Gibson.

That's the whole point of the discussion. Gibson likely going to cost something small right now even with retention

It's pretty nuts that the Predators are the worst team in the NHL in spite of Saros putting up elite numbers.

They're on an all time bad shooting run.

Which is the Oilers to a tee.

They could have had Adin Hill. They had Anthony Stolarz but decided Koskinen was the new anointed one. They could have probably had Dostal a year ago for a reasonable price.

They want to wait and then the more proven options aren't available so they end up settling for shit like Jack Campbell when they do actually try to find their "1 goalie in every 4 years" routine instead of being proactive on the goaltending front.

Meanwhile Vegas tries multiple guys once Lehner went AWOL, and they won a Cup because they hit pay dirt on one of their gambles (Adin Hill going .930 in the 2023 playoffs and steam rolling everyone). Even Thompson who they had, we see now is pretty damn good in Washington, so they had actually hit on two of the gambles they took.

Why we don't even try the Vegas model at least is beyond me. If you don't have a bonafied no.1, stop with the stupid charade of trying to pretend you have Fuhr in net and give multiple different guys a fair chance and don't anoint one guy as your defacto starter.

McLeod's most common linemates in Buffalo are Jordan Greenway and Jason Zucker. He has also played a grand total of 9 minutes more 5v5 than Henrique has this year.

He would also be cheaper, way better defensively(though Adam isn't that bad), and probably the teams top Penalty Killing option.

This is absolutely true FWIW and it's also not like you can just ignore the trade return in practice the way I did in my post.
What does that have to do with anything. The point is his libemates here would have a combined 4 goals.

The Oilers are in the playoffs race right now with the worse goaltending
Right, but again Gibson's body of work the last few years would indicate that he's not an upgrade on what we currently have, especially assuming we're sending Skinner the other way. We're trading one bad goalie for another, only with a higher cap hit and the possibility of more spent assets.

Oh, and that wonderful cap hit that bleeds into McDavid's extension years.

Any goalie is an upgrade on the last place goalie.

Including last year's last place goalie? That one?

Yes.

Also one guy plays on one of the worst defensive teams in the league, one guy plays on one of the best defensive teams in the league.

How do you have terrible numbers in that situation when you have fairly good defensive structure in front of you? Pickard is .915 outside of the one Chicago game. Skinner is still freaking .890 even with his Winnipeg game erased, that means Pickard has outplayed the shit out of Skinner past game 2.
