Have you watched McLeod lately? Yes he doesn't hit, but he is still a hard forechecker who causes turnovers and gets the puck to his teammates. Defensively reliable and wins faceoffs.

Nah, I don't watch Sabres games, they're an unwatchable team mired in the worst playoff drought ever, so I'll have to take your word for it. I'm glad the wake-up call seems to have worked out alright for him, as I was a fan of the player despite him being too soft in the playoffs (guess he won't have to worry about that with Buffalo).

That's what he was in the regular season here last year also. Then he became a shell of that player in the playoffs just like he did the year before that.

It won't matter next year. This team's window is closing fast, if it's not already closed.

Also Eberle wasn't good in the playoffs his first year either. Good thing we traded him for nothing.
Have you seen the garbage we trot out day after day after our best 3 forwards ? Within a month Savoie will be skating circles around every one of them if not already. His hockey IQ is elite. Something this forward group lacks.

this is on Katz
he hired these bums and it's been bad karma ever since the Bowman hiring
"Best in Class" were Jeff Jackson's words LMAO
He signed him, called him best in class, then Bowman displayed that with Holloway, Broberg. Best in class indeed ! His interview just a week ago was mind numbing. Seravelli looked like a turtle asking him sofball questions. This is one time guys like Spector should grow sone balls and call him out like he calls players out.

Fire Bowman chants should ring Rogers place moving forward. Embarassing hire.

Bouchard doesn’t have issues- the fans do.

Per Mike Kelly:

Bouchard is 2nd in the league in giveaways. Weegar is 1st. Karlsson is 3rd, Kucherov is 4th, MacKinnon is 8th, Theodore 9th, and Rob Brown’s favourite - Werenski is 12th. Bouchard touches the puck ALOT. Only 11% of his possessions are turnovers 6th lowest amongst all d men.
I've generally been a backer of Bouchard and still think it would be stupid to give up on him but he's been atrocious most of the season. The stats are one small part of the story, his turnovers are egregious and ill timed, he makes errors seemingly every game that you see top Dmen only make on occasion especially in the last month or so when he's been mindnumbingly bad. There's just no defending his play this season, he needs to be MUCH better.

I’m expecting a trade for a goalie today. Make the bleeding stop before we find ourselves out of the playoffs.
I'm expecting you to be disappointed. I too would like to see something done to stop the bleeding, but I doubt it gets done before early next week, after they can presumably get an update on Kane and his trade list can be discussed.

Fk 7b days until trade deadline and it's been crickets not just with oilers but league wide....

Wtf people do something....

He needs to be better. I agree. But you are wrong on the rest of your assessment. He gives the puck away on just 11% of his possessions- that's 6th best for all d-men in the league. HE literally handles the puck more than any other d man because Ekholm defers to him....alot

Bowman said he's looking at March 1st at the day to get more clarity on Kane's situation. I guess they won't do anything until after that day. It's also the last day of the Oilers roadtrip from hell (against Carolina). They knew this roadtrip was going to be rough and had it on their radar for a while. I bet they're looking at March 4, against the Ducks, as a reset.

All this is to say that any move will probably take place after Saturday imo. I still think the Oilers have a big trick up their sleeve.

I thought he played fine in the '23 playoffs. Last playoffs wasn't great 5v5 but was integral for the PK. And this team needs better PKers.
Oilers are actually first in the league for expected goals against on the PK but 27th for actual goals against. The goalies aren't making saves.

You nailed it. IMO they are playing the Kane situation perfectly and probably already have trades lined up.

Oilers management are giving me smarter than everyone else vibes when it comes to fixing our goaltending. Even though it’s clearly our biggest weakness I’m starting to believe the media when they say the Oilers aren’t looking at addressing it.

How would you guys fill in these two spots on offence? Reasonably

Nuge Mcdavid Hyman
XXX Drai Arvidsson
Kane XXX Podkolzin
Janmark Rico Kappenen/Brown/Perry

If they can somehow get here without using Jeff Skinner they will be able to go on a run. Drai Needs a legit winger, and I think Arvy will be "good enough" if he's on a strong line that can carry him.

- Rico line needs to be the 4th
- Nuge Mcdavid Hyman showed some good signs last night and maybe with a deeper line up behind them they will do ok.
- Jeff Skinner wasn't good enough to be Drai's winger last night. He's too slow and we know Bob won't play him.
- Can Savoie play 3C? Maybe? Probably not. Is he ready to be Drai winger in the playoffs? Probably not.

The thing is, not all turnovers are created equally. The turnovers, like for example the one on that pivotal goal against Colorado right before the break, have happened far too often with him almost every game it seems like in the last month or two. They're generally really ugly turnovers and happen at inopportune times.
Not even turnovers, his defending in space as well. Skinner was terrible on that 2nd goal against Tampa but where exactly was Bouchard on that play? Controller disconnected then sort of just gives a soft waive with his stick as Hagel easily works his way around the net. Can't have that at a high level of hockey,

I value Bouchard highly, I saw enough of him last year to see a guy that has top 10 Dman in the league potential when his head is right but his head is elsewhere this season and he's a big reason why the Oilers have struggled a lot in the last month. He's their engine in a lot of ways, Bad Bouchard =Bad Oilers, Good Bouchard = Good Oilers and there's been a lot of Bad Bouchard the second half of this season.
It's sort of how I felt about Draisaitl in the early years when he was making those same egregious turnovers, although less frequently than what we're seeing with Bouchard now, with the difference being that you can get away with that more as a forward, not as a Dman.

Blueline blunders and pizzas up the middle have become a staple for him this season and those don't show up on any spreadsheet. A lesser defenseman would've been demoted. Bouchard was amazing in the playoffs last year but this year he looks like MA Bergeron.
