Rantanen is a goalie?

I personally believe a good top 6 forward is slightly more important than a goalie. I don't support Skinner and would love an upgrade, but goalies are voodoo and you just never know how it turns out.

Our top 6 is a hot mess and unless we have a Hellebuyck we may need to score our way out of this. 1 really good top line player could really open it up for Mcdavid and Drai.

I think he either needs a super elite player like Drai that can process the game the same way, OR guys that keep it simple and aren’t trying to process things faster than they’re capable of.

Guys like Maroon, Hyman work because they aren’t trying to be McDavid, they’re causing chaos and getting to the net.

There’s probably only a dozen or so players that can play with McDavid the way Drai does. So maybe we should find another Hyman type guy, or a power forward and stop overthinking it.

Tuch really does sound like a good fit. Power forward that can really skate.

Kinda reminds me of Crosby actually. He worked like a charm with Malkin but they couldn’t stack their top line. So who worked? Guys like Kunitz and Dupuis were great with him and they were grinders.

I feel like once we figure this out we need to keep the line combos the same for a while. There is way too much line shuffling going on that we can't seem to get any chemistry going.

I think it's time to find a way to go back to: Janmark Henrique Brown as a line

Not a player I'd bet on personally.

He's got the vibe of a bad team hero goaltender who probably won't pan out at higher tier competition when the games matter. Kind of like Korpisalo going from Columbus to LA a couple of years ago and getting torched right back to being a backup goaltender by the Oilers in the playoffs during the back half of the series.

Our PK is terrible.
Our forwards outside of Draisaitl and McDavid can barely piss a drop of offense
Our defense is falling apart lately

Looking at a few options on NHL Edge, Gibson might be the best bet if he can be pried out. Does well on mid range chances and above average on high danger. Still trying to learn the ins and outs of these micro stats and percentages though, so if someone can correct me, please do.

Mcdavid I think is on the decline a bit. He peaked a few seasons ago (better win soon)
PP sucks. Nuge must go, Bouchard must shoot.
PK is bad because of goaltending? I'm not sure.
Outside of Mcdrai we need a top forward it's our BIGGEST need by far.

Our biggest problem is we have no top 6 wingers on this team. Nuge, Skinner, Arvy, Savoie are all too small and should most likely be bottom 6 players. (Savoie will show us soon enough)

I just don't think there is an available player who moves the needle more than Gibson. If he pans out it will give the team a boost like acquiring Hyman or Ekholm IMO, he has that kind of talent. I don't see any other available player that would do that. It's clear goaltending is the weakest part of the team.

Rantanen I think is a bit of a pipe dream, Carolina would definitely want like a 1st + Savoie for starters for him and then there's all sorts of questions about how you afford him + Drai's extension kicking in + McDavid's one forthcoming + Bouchard also.

I'm not saying don't look at it and maybe do some due dilligence, but that would be really difficult to make work.

We had something like a 25% turnover rate from the team that played game 7 of the finals. To me that’s to high and should have been around 15% but the offer sheets forced that. I’m just hoping that some of our veterans are just saving it for the playoffs.

Demko seems like a big risk, they’d really need to have a thorough understanding of his health situation. Hes looked top end when healthy but his body seems fragile and being a UFA and likely looking for a Swayman type deal could be a tough situation.

I’d probably rather Gibson than Demko all things considered. Demko will cost you a pretty penny, Gibson comes much cheaper with some retention.
