Rumors Proposals Thread Post Deadline Apocalypse 3rd Times A Charm Stu Stu Stupider Management May the Schwartz be with You

PJ was absolutely gifted top line minutes without earning anything. Yamo - as I’ve said - was welded to Draisaitl without accomplishing anything for ages.

Anyway the fact remains is that the 2 Blues were not given a proper development opportunity here. If they had, chances are they’d still be here but you know, the Oilers being the Oilers and seemingly incapable of developing young players, it didn’t work out as us the case for most of our draftees.

Love the Oilers. Have grown to be in utter contempt of anyone in management, scouting and development. It’s a pack of f***ing idiots who shouldn’t be in charge of a lemonade stand.
Yamo was welded to Drai once he had that PPG season and that was 3 year after he was drafted. Same timeline as Broberg and Holloway. Pulju didn't play in the top 6 regularly until his second time with the Oilers. Probably something Holland promised to him if he return to the Oilers

Just how long do you think Broberg and Holloway will extend the cup window?
It's open for as long as McDavid and Drai are still in their prime. Right now the Oilers need to worry about Frederic and Walman
Yeah but how long are they going to play at a historically high level? Probably a few years but the supporting cast is also getting older and further past their prime and not much flexibility to really improve the roster which is where 23 year old Holloway and Broberg would have come in. Hard to get guys like that unless you draft them and the Oilers threw them away.
BTW, Walman is signed for another year and I'm almost positive that Frederic is gone after the season, American guy used to playing in the Northeast U.S., he gone.

In any event, to get this away from Broberg and Holloway because I'm sure it's annoying to some at this point and should be kept in their thread, the Oilers are going to need to hit on their few good prospects and look for bargain deal guys that can potentially outperform their contract like what the Leafs had with Hyman for years, what the Panthers continually do with guys like Verhaege, Forsling etc. and many other contenders to extend a Cup window.
They should start with signing their own, the Russian kid Beryozkin for starters, get that kid signed please.

Oh and find a league average goalie at minimum for a change? Can't be that hard, everybody else seems to find these at least once every few years.

I like how we went from overplaying our rookies to barely playing them at all.

Savoie should be getting NHL games right now. Rodrigue should be getting a game. Instead we call up Derek Ryan and rely on our bad backup while our even worse starter gets healthy.

It's cross-generational managerial incompetence, which is why after ten years of failing McDrai they still hire arrogant has-beens (or never-weres) who were gifted a core that won them Cups, even though only 4 GMs in the 108-year history of the league have won Cups for two different teams. Management just repeats their mistakes and scratches their numb skulls when they get the same results.

These dinosaurs all think they know how to win, and McDrai gives them the false confidence that their shitty rosters and shittier coaches (aside from Coffey and the special teams guy) are in some way actually competent. Unfortunately, this aging, passenger-ridden roster, horrific goaltending, and god-awful head coach would have this team missing the postseason this year without Draisaitl netting all those OT winners. It's so pathetic that management and their cheerleaders on here, who at one point massively overlapped with Stu Simps, all act like making it to Game 7 is the same as winning the Cup. It's not. We lost. And it's 100% on management.

Anyone who knocks McDrai for not winning a Cup should be laughed out of the room. They did everything humanly possible to win, with a visibly hurt Drai on pace to break the single postseason goals record in 2023, and Connor doing Gretzky shit for three consecutive postseasons, while the idiots in charge have done everything humanly possible to prevent them from winning.

This also assumes that McDavid sticks around. Until he's signed absolutely nothing is a guarantee and a short playoff run might have him wondering about greener pastures. I know that's taboo to talk about around here but it's a possibility until it isn't.

Definitely not taboo, plenty of people like to catastrophize this at every single opportunity to an annoying degree.

Higher chance of you becoming a Flames fan if not already since you're already residing in Flames town than McDavid leaving

Pickard has not been the problem in any way shape or form.
He hasn't been the solution either. The issue is that we have a goaltending problem, and no solution to that problem in house, aside from the highly unlikely possibility that Rodrigue were to get a start and play far above the level he has ever played in the AHL.

Cam Ward had a .882 season and then went onto win the cup and Conn Smythe with .920.

The Condors is icing a crap team as opposed to the Oilers so who knows.

The guy is 18-8 as a backup, and other than the odd burp, has done everything you could want in a backup.. That sounds like a solution to me. The issue is that our starter is really not a starter himself.

Solution as a backup, sure. But Cal Pickard, as good as he has been, is what he is at this point. A career backup/AHL tweener. 18-8 is a solid record, but keep in mind that a lot of those games were not against playoff teams. The competition gets harder as we go along.
