Yeah I don't understand this suspension... should be the entire year.Oh look, Ekblad gets to rest before the playoffs, with a two-game slap on the wrist for the first round.

I believe since he is a first time offender it has this set suspension amount.Yeah I don't understand this suspension... should be the entire year.
Kane and Arvidsson have 1 year left as well as Kulak, that's 13m coming off the books after next season, so one more big contract on the books is feasible. Still, it handcuffs the team from filling out depth going forward until the cap takes a more meaningful jump. Good thing Draisaitl got locked up when he did, too bad that the McDavid and Bouchard contracts didn't expire earlier so they could have been extended before the projected big cap jump. Then explain the Rantanen rumor, because the rumored extension doesn't make sense. They'd be handcuffing themselves again before they even start negotiations with Bouchard and McDavid.
The Oilers as it stands have about $15m in cap flexibility to re-sign Bouchard, Emberson and about four NHL regulars.
Plus I don't see in the rules anything about the guilty player having to take more tests when he gets back. Maybe that does happen, like it's in the fine print somewhere, but that would be funny if trueYeah I don't understand this suspension... should be the entire year.
Bowman talked about the Rantanen trade. He didn't say it by name but it was obvious.
He said there was a trade that didn't get done because the other team wanted more than just futures. So in other words we didn't have a Stankhoven to give. We were never going to offer Bouchard.
Just logically, isn't it madness for a forward-heavy team to trade to top pairing D for yet another high AAV forward?
Despite the cap increases I don't think we should expect that to mean that we can add more cap heavy players. We are going to be paying more for players all up and down the lineup before long. Which means us not matching Holloway was maybe a good thing. I don't buy Rantanen being worth 13-14 million aavSo Holloway would have landed us Rants.
Players earn that right when they get to the UFA stage of their career. It’s pretty much their retirement contract so they want a place where them and their family can be happy. Especially a high profile UFA that can pick their spot.Always came across as an entitled douchebag. That comment stands, even if the Oilers were “one of the four” as rumoured

Colorado probably made it clear they couldn’t talk deal before the trade.Cool, that’s all true but he could have probably given them a heads up before they traded for a guy they wanted to sign

Carolina just assumed they’d be able to sign him if they threw enough money at him.
I'm not sure how you would view moving him for trade capital as 'short-sighted' when the premise is extending the team's realistic Cup window by adding a prime elite forward and adding trade capital.Kane and Arvidsson have 1 year left as well as Kulak, that's 13m coming off the books after next season, so one more big contract on the books is feasible. Oh and Henrique coming off the books so that's $16m out after next season. They obviously had a plan with a Rantanen contract in hand that I assume didn't include trading Bouchard which would be very short sighted and a big mistake.
Actually, Walman too so that's nearly $20m coming off the books but he's a guy you want to re-sign.
Wow Ekholm too, how did I forget him. Obviously he's a must sign as well but that's $26m coming off after next season. Skinner too but obviously you need to use that money for a new goalie.
Lots of moving parts the next two offseasons for the Oilers.
As a rule we wouldn't be able to trade Holloway after matching the offersheet, a year needs to pass for him to become tradeable again. So Holloway would have landed us Rants.
