But you used an 18-19 sample of an injured Pulju to demonstrate that. You used seasons that were not even the same seasons in the comparison. You ignored all that feedback in your reply.
To me its not convincing. Why would you use 18-19 sample to bring Pulju stats down when his last two full seasons and playoffs he's shown ample improvements?
Keep in mind I don't put stock in +/- alone. I also look at GA, I look at what the player does on the ice. I iso constantly in games and rewatch moments in games several times to quantify what occurred. I don't watch hockey like most people would. I'm constantly jumping on replay and if I don't get the sequence right first time, I look at until I understand what occurred in a play. Without which you don't know. The more you watch replays the more you note the quieter contributions of players and how they are progressing in an area. For instance last two seasons Pulju and RNH have got better at loose pucks, getting sticks in lanes and compete level getting pucks out. In real time play, in the fastest sport on ice, you don't see all the context unless you break down the plays. Like teams do in the video room. I love watching games that way. breaking it down. I would find it so frustrating if I could only watch games with no replay. Indeed I did find that frustrating before VCR's first allowed the end user to replay anything they wanted to replay. It makes watching the game so much different.
In short Pulju passes that sniff test.
I'm using the entire sample size, their career. We're talking exclusively real goal scored vs. real goals against and over their careers, Pulju is a +18 while Yamamoto is a +17. Anybody can pick out sample sizes to favor one player over the other but the reality is that their +/- is pretty much equal over their careers as an Edmonton Oiler. That's just the facts.
I can appreciate what you see with your eye test and it's entirely fair to base your opinion on that but somebody else might see Yamamoto and see a player that passes the eye test for them so it becomes subjective when you look at it that way.
The reality is that neither has been able to nail down a top 6 role in this league based on merit. They've both have long stints in the top 6 on this team because, quite frankly, the Oilers haven't had any real competition for those spots in their time here.
As I said before, I don't see a big difference between the players. I see middle 6 wingers with different strengths and weaknesses that are expendable.
