Its one of those things we can hate Holland for all we want but players like him for. He gets the human element. If one of our C prospects is blocked from NHL time for a few years, he is willing to do a swap and give them a chance that way.

I'd probably rather have Ekholm at $6 million over Karlsson at $11.5 million to be honest. Ekholm fits the needs of this team more than Karlsson does.

Especially if we used 5M on another 2/3 defenseman to complement our top 4 of Nurse, Ekholm and Bouchard.

It absolutely does. I'm sure as soon as a kid is drafted they are looking at what's going on in the system and how hard it will be to make the spot they want on the big club, how many prospects they have to jump over, how many of those have a legitimate NHL upside, etc.
