McKenzie saying Karlsson is driving the bus on the trade with a full no move and explained the mindset of waiting into the summer when a expanded amount of suitors would theoretically pop up.

Talk of retained money sort of trickled off, which I was hoping he would drop a nugget of info, but basically talks about the magnitude of retention on 4 years of the contract, hasn't happened yet in the NHL.

IMO, if we moved Campbell back, I'd take less retained salary on Karlsson.
I am not even that crazy about Karlsson now. I would try very hard to get a good RHD that might not cost as much as him.

I don't see how SJ is able to demand such a huge return with Karlsson's huge salary and full NMC. If evidenced by the Patrick Kane situation.. the selling team is at a real disadvantage when the player is driving the bus and dictating where he wants to go. Hopefully SJ realizes this and their asking price will go down significantly in the summer.
I think they want more potential suitors to make sure thats true.

Sorry Grier wants more suitors, or Karlsson does?

If Karlsson does, sounds like he's not super keen to come here?
Sounds like EK65 wants more suitors. Crazy to think that when he has/had a chance to play with an all time GOAT

The interview with Poile seems like he almost gave us Ekholm at a discount.

Said “He thinks he did ok in the trade, thinks Ekholm was the perfect piece for what the oilers needed.”
He only says that after the Leafs game. GMKH looks like he may have made one of the premiere trades before the deadline and Poile does not want to look bad.

Oilers gave up plenty to get Ekholm.

We can deal for anyone making 1.7 mil or less at 50% retention and send Shore directly to the AHL. Same thing on D if we sent down Broberg or Desharnais.
I doubt that any trade like that moves the needle much IMO. If we lose because of the 4th line or 6/7 D then we had bigger problems.

They're just hoping that a desperate team will pick him up while he's hot. If they tried to dump his contract last offseason they would have needed to retain 50% plus give up multiple assets. This summer they will probably end up retaining 20-30% while gaining assets. They need to strike while the iron is hot and let him be another teams future problem.

I don’t see why teams would have to pay for retention from SJ. They’re the ones who want to dump tens of millions of salary commitment they don’t want to pay.

Seems like Grier wants to have his cake and eat it too. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he can’t get a deal done in the summer either and this time next year we’re back to talking about Karlsson as a cap dump they’ll have to retain a bunch on and basically give him away.

Basically crying saying "but our right side is bad now without Barrie, it can't possible be okay blah blah" But when our left side was Nurse and then 2-5 guys worse than Ceci or Bouchard he was fine with it and it was good enough.
I don't get it. Barrie was terrible in all facets of the game other than occasionally getting his shot off or giving the puck to mcd on the pp.

The guy couldn't skate, couldn't pass, couldn't break out, couldn't defend a blue line, couldn't walk a blue line in the o zone. I'm sick of hearing how valuable a puck moving defenseman he was. He was not. He was a guy that liked to jump up in the play and has a good shot. But as someone that has watched every single game this szn, he was really bad the whole year.

Grier probably feels he'll win the Norris and that will be extra lustre on EK if he's a 100+ point dman that manages to stay healthy for 82 games.

Oilers now a beefy team it seems. I would like to see one more small addition of a 4th line tougher guy at minimun.

When does this end anyways? 1:00 MST?
