I mean I read this as Kane thinks he’s going to be able to play this season and the medical team thinks different. This means we aren’t getting healthy Kane.

Repeat of last year basically. He was totally broken all season and we never knew why he wasn't getting fixed up. More than enough excuse last year for him to go on LTIR and try to properly heal for playoffs. Would have probably put us over the top to win it all with an extra 5M player and Kane far healthier for the run. Ends up turning a hernia from the start of the 23/24 season into multiple hernias and abdominal tears and I guess a knee injury in rehab. Sigh.

Matthew Tkachuk on LTIR until the playoffs... it's that time of the season.

It would be funny if he shared the real situation of the injury with his brother and they meet in the playoffs. Would Brady show loyalty to his team or brother?

With Kane, I see his point. He’s a competitor. He wants to get out and play and get into game shape before the playoffs.

It’s not his fault these bozos overestimated his return and signed a few players with no move clauses and now he’s the odd one out? Look what he put his body through for this team, he couldn’t even sit on the bench. How f***ing stupid can this management be.

I say good for him for pushing back if he’s getting second opinions on his health (I don’t know if he is or not, just speculating) and those opinions are he can start practicing. Yeah it handcuffs the team at TDL now but Bownhead and Double J(ackass) did it to themselves, and the team.

f*** these two idiots, they may as well stand pat now.

That’s why I never understood not matching the offer sheets to go all in this year at the deadline. We have almost no picks/prospects or cap space to really go all in this year.
I can sort of understand letting Broberg walk for that price but not matching Holloway was inexcusable. Savoie is basically our only prospect at this point.

We’re moving Arvidsson now too. Gazzola pretty much confirmed it. He’s most likely the one who asked for a change since he hasn’t been a fit

Didn't Gazzola also say Taylor Hall was a lock to sign here? I don't think he's as connected as he used to be. If Arvidsson is willing to be traded, that would be a gift but Jeff Jackson should be taken out back and slapped repeatedly for his off-season work.

The problem is that our third line never produces so it’s hard to know how much of its roster related.

I mean Foegele, McLeod never did anything on the third line last year either.

Organization and Coaching staff aren’t able to get much out of their players.

This team needs to start bringing in players who have proven they can succeed in the type of role we are going to give them here.

Jeff Skinner has averaged 16.5 minutes per game his entire career. Comes here and gets 4 minutes less per game

Arvidsson goes from 16.5 minutes his entire career to 14.5

Henrique goes from 17.5 his entire career to just over 14

In hindsight it’s no surprise they have struggled in reduced roles.

Oilers took top line players from shitty teams to play in their bottom 6. That's usually the right thing to do. Knob needs to be better at utilizing them.

I wonder if the Oilers just overpay the Sabres for a bunch of guys?

To BUF: Kapanen (cap dump), 2027 1st and 2025 6th

To EDM: Jokiharju(50% retained), Greenway(50% retained) and Lafferty.

I think it makes the Oilers better, but yeah.

Because they don’t have the cap space if Kane comes back early.

JJ botched the cap by signing extra players he couldn’t afford

What's the last thing that he's called roster related? I hope he's right. I would respect the hell out of Arvi the person if he does this.

There’s something hilarious about the first time the Oilers try and do this LTIR game to get a guy to the playoffs so we can get some extra cap and the player won’t play along.

You’d think the team would have checked in to make sure with Kane he was down with this in the offseason lol.

Not a big surprise if Kane isn’t willing to be a team player though. There’s a reason he’s been chased off every team he’s ever been on.

Calvin Pickard being a starter????
Holy f***, come on!
Who the f*** is Pavel Francouz?

Isn’t even 500K accrued something like 1.5M of space at the deadline?

I probably don’t understand this cap shit properly.
Don't feel bad, I would wager that no more than 5% of NHL fans could give you an in depth explanation of accrued cap space, LTIR pools etc. and how they can be applied.

I was reading on a blog (a pro apparently) that the Oilers dipped into the LTIR pool for the Klingberg and Kappanen contracts but I am not sure if this happened or not.

Either way, I get the feeling that some of these projections I've heard about cap space have been misunderstood or perhaps improperly calculated. Why do I get the feeling that Oiler management aren't very clear on the rules either??

If I was a team like Colorado, Washington or Toronto, I think Arvidsson would make sense if his cap hit is reduced. We could always pay a 3rd team to retain money as well. For example:

To Contender:
Victor Arvidsson (2M)

To 3rd party:
2M Retained
3rd rounder from contender
4th rounder from Edmonton

To Edmonton:
Future considerations
