Oilers going after old man Quick would be pathetic. Guy was straight garbage before the Rangers and I suspect he will be garbage again once he leaves.
Qucik would be fine as a clear cut #2. The problem is that we don't have a #1. If Quick is the answer in management's mind we are screwed.
I hated Stu's comments last game. I'm glad Rishaug felt the same.
"I feel great"
"Those shots beat most goalies" on the shitty shot that beat him
"They (Panthers) do a great job in front of our net- that's why they win" Sounded like a dig at his team.

This guy has no competitive bone in his body and zero accountability. You dont win with players like that. I dont know how Drai and MacD put up with it (Drai lost it on him last game).

Need a new goalie bad
Pathetic. Basically saying that it's the defense's fault and not taking any accountability. He needs to gtfo.

Strange. Those shots didn’t beat:
-Ersson
-Lindgren
-Vasilevsky
-Bobrovsky

And that’s just from this road trip alone.

I think the signing was good, but maybe the term was a bit too long. Also, who knows what happens if he didnt get hurt in the playoffs last season. If there is a good chance we get 2022 Kane again, then you keep him because the team really needs him. But I think there's serious doubt based on his past attitude and now health concerns.

The best thing to happen is he sits out the full season, we use his cap, and he comes back and plays effective playoff hockey with us.
I didn’t like the signing for several reasons. First- I remember folks like Kevin Weekes saying Kane will get 7M in the open market and Kane penning his farewell to Edmonton- then circling back to the oilers for a lower amount just showed that GMs around the league weren’t interested in him- despite the playoff performance. Lots of apprehension out there.

Then there was the San Jose thing. Everyone knew San Jose would be penalized and Kane would be made whole again. Turns out the ruling was Kane gets topped up by San Jose to his full 7M salary. Oilers could have signed Kane for 1M and San Jose would have had to pay the balance. Why not wait for the ruling? Third, why give this player a 4 year deal and a NTC knowing full well he poisons the well wherever he goes. It’s who he is. Holland went full Holland- helped out San Jose so they pay less, paid Kane and gave him everything he wanted. It was bad…

McDavid had almost the exact chance from closer in and Bob saved it in the same period

I don’t think anyone is taking Kane’s contract for a year without seeing if he can play, and if it’s an eat cap only move, we don’t have the first that’s usually required. Not only that, the Oilers should be giving up assets to add players not remove them.
This could be just the Oilers putting some fear in him, so that he plays ball with LTIR

I would believe it is a bluff Kane could call, but maybe he won't.

EDM 1st 2026
STL 2nd 2025
Evander Kane

for

John Gibson @40% retained
Brian Dumoulin @50% retained

They buy out Kane in the summer for 1.3 mill per cap owing (2.6 million owing over 2 years total)

Stuart Skinner + Viktor Arvidsson + EDM 1st 2027 for JJ Peterka + James Reimer + Lafferty @500k retained (probably a 3 way deal here where Buffalo turns around and moves Skinner/EDM 1st for something else).

Klim Kostin for EDM 5th (for retention)

RNH McDavid Hyman
Skinner Draisaitl Peterka
Kostin Henrique Podkolzin
Perry Lafferty Brown
Janmark Kapanen

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Kulak
Dumoulin Klingberg
Emberson

Gibson
Reimer
Pickard

We should trade for Sorokin.

Solves the goaltender issue and he scored a goal today v Nashville. So he adds depth scoring too. double threat.
And it would solve our empty net scoring woes!

Buffalo fans are quick to say that they don't want picks and prospects, they need immediate help if they trade a guy like Peterka. Love the Kostin idea though.

I am so leery of swapping out both goalies this late in the season. Neither one are familiar with team defensiveness setups and how each individual d-man plays. Pre-season and training camp allows for that but not the deadline. Pickard staying would help the new guy coming in to help out with this.

Edit: Sorry Soundwave, I didn’t see Pickard’s name at the bottom of your roster list, my apologies

Yeah I get it from their POV, I think it would have to be a bigger 3 way deal where they can then use the 1st + Stuart Skinner to go get someone else.

Just our luck the player's union gets involved because Kane feels singled out.
That is interesting in that I don't see the real gripe. Vegas didn't even have to get penalized when they wiped their butt with Davydov's NTC.

Isn't it honest to ask for a no-trade list because we want to use his cap space elsewhere? It's up to him to say that he won't be a cap problem by staying on LTIR for the season.

Plus I doubt the team would ever put that suggestion in writing at any point. These shady things are handshake deals

Worked ok for this guy, heh (still rocking the Minnesota pads there I think).

I can't see Skinner as having much value league wide, he's basically a placeholder unless someone's goalie coach thinks that they can fix whatever's wrong with him.

Probably still has a bit of value as he was in a recent Cup Final and is still young-ish and cheap. But yeah probably not like a ton. The 1st would be the core piece I guess.
