All of the insider reporting indicates the opposite. He doesnt care about screwing over the team, is being self-centered about the whole thing, and basically has the team working on his time. They team actually doesn't know whta his status will be, and he's holding up the entire organization. This isn't some ploy by the team.
What insiders?

This coach is stubborn. I think we have established that much.
What I’m tired of is all these coaches who get hired say they’re going to preach accountability, but yet only the jobbers and rookies pay the price of getting benched or scratched.

I’m not saying I want Torts, but he’s a guy who has no problem parking anyone’s ass and running a short bench.

This couldn't be more wrong, it was clearly a ploy by the team................

I agree here. Bowman was brought in during the aftermath of the offer sheets. I give him credit for squeezing an extra pick and prospect out of Jackson's screw up

Bowman has done a great job imo, but in a limited opportunity. The key opportunities for a GM to put their stamp on their team are the draft, the opening weeks of free agency, and the trade deadline.

This upcoming trade deadline will be Bowman's chance to put his mark on the Oilers. It will be the first chance we have to really see how good he is
Unfortunately what he will do and what I want him to do will be quite different. Apparently they are looking at a forward and a 3rd pair defensive D that could move up before even considering a goalie....

He brought in Emby who has been pretty good for his role, and physical

He also brought in Podz, who has been decent, but who also brings much needed physicality. Now I'm not necessarily comparing the 2, but keep in mind Nuke had 27 points in his first year in Col. Podz currently has 22 playing between lines 2 and 4. If he get's 30 points that is a massive win for us his first year and the style he brings
None of those guys move the needle though. He needs to wake up and get something significant.

I prefer to wait and see.

I also believe we need a goalie. If we don't get one I will be upset, but there is a limit to that too. The ultimate judgement isn't getting a goalie. It's winning the cup. If we have an early playoff exit for extremely predictable reasons then I'll be pissed. Winning fixes everything. Maybe focusing on a goalie is the wrong thing.

I don't. Cap space is a valuable resource in the coming seasons and even Kane realizes that his spot on the roster is far from guaranteed.
Cap space will have less value as a weapon with massive growth projections to $95.5 million in 2025-26; $104 in 2026-27; and $113.5 in 2027-28 ($25.5 million over a three year period). If anything, I would anticipate the Oilers as an elite revenue driver franchise will spend their way out of a shitty prospect system while many teams in highly competitive market conditions work within a team budget versus to cap ceilings during these highly inflationary cap jumps.

The Oilers need to get through the next couple of years then the cap ceiling opens up which quite likely starts to separate the league by ability (and willingness) to spend.

Have we ever had a GM that took care of shit before TDL and didn't wait til the last minute?
I was going to say maybe Lowe as I thought he brought Roloson in a week or so before the deadline, but it was the day before lol.

I think every GM has had deadline constipation.
