For all the bitching about Arvidsson I was curious how he was performing compared to the other $4M forwards in pts per game.

So the only one who is way outperforming his contract is P. Kane who is an obvious HOFer and signed a sweetheart deal with Detroit. I think this fanbase has an inflated sense of what $4M gets you these days cause of the prior performances of our $5M-ish guys, who way outperformed their contracts (atleast initially).

Because Skinner can create offense on his own and is a finisher. Neither are anything special this season but one has scored from the bottom 6 while the other has seemingly gotten worse as the season moves along.

Anyone actually thinking Bowman is grabbing a starting goalie is out to lunch.

His history of deadline deals
2011: Added Frolik, Salak, Campoli
3rd liner, toss in and a 7th d
2012: Oduya. Ended up being a solid middle pair guy.
2013: Henrique Karlsson (AHL), Handzus(4th liner)
2014: Rundblad, Brisebois both pretty much nothint
2015: Timonen (7th d) Vermette (3rd liner), Desjardins (4th liner)
2016: Panik, Sekac, Ladd, Matt Fraser, Jay Harrison. So a 3rd liner, nothing, 2nd liner, and more nothing
2017: Jurco, Oduya again

And then after that they weren’t really a playoff team anymore. So in his entire history the best he did was Ladd and Oduya. He has never successfully addressed things midseason. He was king of minor tweaks in their cup years and that’s it. Having big roster flaws is something he has been awful at addressing during the season. Ladd was good for the remaining regular season but had a bad playoffs. So really. Oduya was the best thing they have done.

Bowman has never been a big splash guy so zero reason to expect it.

He has generated the third most offence on the roster (points per 60 5v5) while being bounced between press box and second liner, and mostly 4th line and has the 6th most xGF while playing again, on the 4th line with black holes.

Okay and which one of those forwards is mostly playing with the best 5v5 player in the league who is rocking a 2.8 pts/60. Having a .043 Pts/gm when your main linemate has a 2.8 is absolutely putrid.

This. I'm sick of hearing there is no one out there that is an improvement on Skinner. You can literally throw a dart and find one. Argument #2-losing Skinner is a big risk-what if the new goalie gets hurt- then you don't have a Skinner to rely on...you sure do- his name is Pickard and there is no drop off

I think its fair to say that Arvidsson is underperforming based on his history.

In his 590 NHL games he has been a 0.65 ppg player.
If you go to his time in LA immediatley prior to being traded to Edmonton (161 games) Arvidsson was a 0.76 ppg player. The LA numbers are being propped up with PP time though.
If you take out his 3 years in LA (where the PP pumped up his ppg) then his ppg is at 0.60.

In terms of Arvidssons career numbers his current 0.43 ppg is a 33% drop. In terms of his career minus the LA years then its a 29% drop.

Not sure what his PP TOI is in Edmonton compared to his career so pure 5x5 numbers might be more revealing but there does appear to be some merit to suggesting that Arvidsson is underperforming with Edmonton.

We won’t have the cap next year to go all in. This is pretty much our last legit year. After this year it’s luck. Our 1/2 player prospect pool guarantees that. This org is in post cup status without the cup.

I get what you’re suggesting, but which of those players in that list has been playing beside the league’s leading goal scorer and a former (and candidate for another) Hart Trophy winner, this year?

I mean other than Kane being a one time elite talent (who’s on the back 9 of his career) the rest of the plugs on that list aren’t really anything to write home about, production-wise this season.

That said, I’d like to see what the production of a Neiderrieter, Mercer or even Fabbri would be playing alongside Drai. It’s not unreasonable to think their points per game would be considerably higher than what they are currently showing.

Arviddson has been a colossal bust this season.
