Hmmm I’m king of getting a bit nervous re McDavid signing here again. It seems as if he has reservations about signing here due to our team not really being built for long term sustainable success. I can’t blame him as our current window to win it all is fading fast. Time will tell though.

I’m more worried that he is going to have short sighted opinions on how the team should be built. I have the impression with him that he over values veteran types of players. I think the team needs to get younger. Maybe I am wrong about him. Hopefully he forces the organization into get a legitimate goaltender though.

Well we need to know what numbers he's looking at to figure on what we can do cap wise. If Connor keeps dicking around and there are no numbers in mind how can Bowman do his job properly? f Connor wants to see some change that's fine, but Bowman needs to know what kind of cap that he can work with or else he is being handicapped and our offseason likely sucks.

Connor’s extension doesn’t have much effect on our offseason. He’s still under contract another year.

He’s coming to an end of a $100 million contract plus endorsements. If he values winning over money, he’ll leave money on the table so there’s room to sign players to get them over the hump. If he values money over winning, then the team is what it is.

I think he’ll sign but it won’t be for 8 years, it’ll be more like 4 or 5. If they win a cup or two over that time and are still contenders, maybe he extends. If not and the team regresses, then he asks for a trade.

Other posters can laugh and scoff but the above is for not anyways, either way. As long as Gary is commissioner, a Canadian team has no hope in winning it. They’ll make the finals but no closer.

McDavid shouldn’t sign a 4 or 5 year deal, makes no sense for him. It’ll be 3 or 8 IMO.

I don't think he was hiding it, he wants to see a team that could compete for 3,4,5+ years. That means no big 30+yo additions. I'm basically looking at skaters his age or younger, or crossing them off the list.

No offense, but I think your read on him this offseason is 100% wrong. In the past, sure he liked his vets, but that kinda blew up this year. He is pissed that nearly everyone is 30+ leaving a bleak future, they got beat worse, and the two good prospects we had slipped through our fingers. Get a couple young guys here who can help now, and that will get him to sign for 8. Bring in Tavares and some other 30+, we get him for 3. In my opinion, of course.

Fortunately, there is a few <30 options in FA, and the trade market this summer for Bowman to pitch. I'd also say this was part of the reason they seemed to have locked up 27yo Frederic so quickly. I think Bowman, while not the best, is probably better for this stage of the build compared to Holland. Walman and Frederic were both good under 30 additions, imo. We need more of that.

Yeah I'm not a fan of Henrique either honestly but until they nail down their targeted Cs for the bottom 6, I don't know if he moves. They were getting caved in FOs and he was basically the only one holding his head above water. He also PKs, and we know the PK was completely underwater for this entire season and post-season run. The PK really needs help.
He may PK, but he doesn't do it well.

I was hoping we'd see his skating improve after fighting a high ankle sprain last year in the playoffs, but I think it actually got worse. Need guys who can actually skate on the PK, and more speed overall in the forward group. Our forecheck wasn't nearly as effective this year with the loss of Holloway, Foegele, and McLeod up front. It was extremely evident in the finals without Hyman. Florida's D had way too much time to move the puck.

All this speculation about Connor. It's pretty obvious he'll re-sign in Edmonton, he's going to be the highest paid player in the league and for 8 years. Guess the "insiders" are just doing their jobs but there's no way 97 leaves Edmonton, especially not with Leon signing that contract last year.
Guaranteed he signs. 8 years is definitely not a sure thing. Draisaitl's deal being the marker is pretty overstated, in regards to him signing for 8.

If Davo signs for 3years, that takes him to 32yo and Draisaitl is 33 with 4 years left. If we haven't won by then, maybe Draisaitl is fine finishing off his contract as the main guy, or maybe he quietly asks for a trade. I would not judge him at all for that. Davo can still get a monster deal somewhere he can win before he is completely over the hill, and doesn't have to demand out midway through a deal.

Honestly, if we haven't won by that point, we might be thinking it's time to just blow it up anyways, those 2 would still have tremendous value and we owe it to them to let them go somewhere competent to win. If we have won 1 or 2, well then great, whatever Connor chooses he deserves.

Frederic at 3.85M is something you hold off and circle back to when there's nothing left. That way he either goes to St. Louis and get paid that much and destroy their cap or sign with us under 3M
Someone will give him 4x7 I think that’s why the oilers felt they had to go 8 in the first place. He’s 27 and has a skill set every GM wants.

I honestly don't think numbers matter except term and what step the organization is willing to take
