I don't see a team picking up Nurse without the Oilers taking back some of his contract or at least taking a bad contract back. I hope I'm wrong though and we can unload him and his full salary

Seems pretty obvious Arvidsson is gone at the draft. That’s more cap space but not thaaat much.
$4m is pretty significant.
Anyway, I don't know how Bowman moves Arvidsson without attaching an asset.
One, his salary is way too high for what he brings. Two, the NMC limits the options for trade partners and three, teams know the Oilers are desperate to unload cap. I'm thinking that he's moved with a mid round pick or prospect attached or for another bad contract maybe at a lesser caphit, a player that fits more of a need. I just don't see a team giving the Oilers a Get Out of Jail Free card.

Same with Kane but to a lesser extent because he has a valued skillset. $5.25m is a big ticket even in a rising cap world. I think HFOil might be upset at how these trades look.

Nurse for Karlsson at 50 percent.
Penguins are one of the few teams I could see taking Nurse at full contract due to Dumbass. Too bad they missed playoffs. No chance Nurse waives. As for Karlsson he's terrible. Not even worth it at 50% retained. Avoiding that Bouchard+prospects/picks for Karlsson trade is one of the luckiest things that has ever happened to this franchise. Just dump Nurse unretained for a 7th round pick or something and I'll be happy.

For what, the exact same results? Swap out players not good enough for a bunch of players who are just as bad, possibly even worse.
Most stuff in this thread seems to go over your head, so I'm not surprised that did too.

I'm talking about spending on true top 6/4 options. Think Ehlers, Peterka, Marner etc, and less Skinners and Arvidssons.

Sounds like Arvidsson is going to work with them and I don’t think he’s so atrocious we need to pay to shed him. He’d be a good pump and dump candidate on a lesser team.

He's a small 32 year old that put up 3rd line production mostly with one of the premier centers in the league at $4m. If I'm a GM why am I doing the Oilers a favor? What's the selling point of taking Arvidsson at that caphit?
The only GM that I could see taking him for free is Ken Holland ironically, he has a history of taking salary dumps because he doesn't squeeze GMs.

A whole shwack of arvidsson caliber players are going to get 4 mil deals in just a few days. 4 mil is third liner money now. This isn’t a multi year deal we’re talking. Tons of teams need vet middle 6ers especially ones they can get more assets for at the deadline. We got Ty Emberson out of Cody Ceci. Arvidsson has a more recent track record of success and will for sure get something.

The difference with Ceci is that RHD are more coveted and teams are always suckers for Dmen that can play 18-20 minutes no matter how bad they are, I'm not shocked that he was able to be sold off. Old small forward who had a big decline in production is a tougher selling point IMO. Yamamoto who was a lot younger had a minor asset attached to dump his contract.
Hope you're right though, dumping that $4m without losing an asset would be a big win.

He only has one year left. Any GM trying to squeeze us can get bent.

We will see. Just judging from some of the signings we have seen in the last week, there is going to be some atrocious deals handed out on July 1 with the rising cap. There should be a team out there willing to take a low risk on 1 year deal. It depends if Arviddson is willing to go to an average team where he will get more ice time.

On the other hand, it seems like no one ever does us a favor so I’m not expecting much:

I just can't see anybody taking Nurse's contract. It's possible but I would say its less than a 10% probability.

I think Stauffer is referring to the possibility of Arvi, Henrique and Kane all being traded/bought out. That would create a lot of cap space--at least temporarily.

Fun to speculate. We'll have the answers in a few days.

Story on the wires tonight says offer sheet probably coming for Bouchard. The plot thickens.

Maybe that is the surprising cap space we have... not matching...

Bouchard wants to be here and it sounds like negotiations aren’t far off. I am not worried about an offer sheet at all.

I think theres a chance a non playoff team could take him. Hes not a bad regular season player. His game just falls apart against good competition. Its just whether or not he’s willing to waive. I think thats the hard part.

Yes, that's the other part of it. I don't think he would waive either.

Donato and Duchene who both had 30+ goals and 60+ and 80+ points respectively signed $4m and $4.5m contracts respectively for 4 years so I don't see evidence of an inflated market quite yet until we see the Frederic contract lol.

All kinds of bloggers suggesting their theories. Most of them have no more knowledge than we do. Quite possibly less. But again--fun to speculate--you can't take any of it too seriously.

In the end I don't think there will be any big surprises.
