OilersNation suggesting Demko is the way to go. Only one year left. Oilers with a healthy Demko would be the best team in the league

The problem is that he is only 50/50 for being healthy. I agree though, if Demko came onto the team without giving up the world for him, and he was healthy. The Oilers would be be an exceptionally tough out in the playoffs.

I haven't read everything but I haven't seen a single post writing Savoie off... just people stating the fact that his diminutive stature has the chance of working against him.
I've seen almost nothing but this from people who don't think he can do anything because Short and can't be counted on to lead the team....or something.

Savoie will get a shot to make the team and play regular minutes, not sure why this is being debated lol.

Him making the team is not being debated...

Him being the top 6 answer as a winger for Leon is what is being debated.

We are a goalie and a top 6 winger away and without those two upgrades it will be another season we don't win.

No, it didn't, this is a misunderstanding that needs to stop. Ekblad was suspended after the trade deadline. Trade deadline was March 7, and Ekblad was suspended March 10.
There was one game between march 7 and March 10 the panthers knew that Ekblad was facing a suspension and the league assisted them by allowing the cap to be used at the deadline. Without Ekblads suspension they could not afford both players.

:facepalm:Lolz, ok then, we're doing this. You have alot of posts related to this, it shouldn't be hard.

The fundamental misunderstand that the team is very good and Savoie will get an opportunity to play on it aren't really up for debate.

The nonsense seems to come from "bad because short" and "how can he play top line minutes as a kid who's short" etc.

I only voted for 4 guys, but I know we likely won't be moving out Henrique, and I don't mind having him, I just wish it was for a little less cap. Anyway, I voted for Podkolzin (does everything but score, and is paid basically nothing), Perry (if he signs for cheap), Kapanen (speed and energy, with some scoring touch - but I'd only give him $1M), and Philp, as he is still cheap enough to waive and not worry about it. I wouldn't mind having Brown or Frederic back if the deals have a low enough AAV, but the rest can go.

Final two blowouts? The Panthers led by 3 or more goals at some point in all the last 4 GP. It wasn't just two. We were blown out of the water and the most onesided SC final loss we've had since 1983.
This is just false. Games 1 and 2 with analytically favoured in the Oilers direction. Game 3 was in Floridas. Game 4 was a coin toss. Game 5 the Oilers had early pressure, Bob made big saves, Pickard didn’t- Knob went to 97/29 and took his own team out of it. Game 6 again, Oilers had the early pressure- Skinner sucks and Oilers fighting back again.

Bob had a ridiculous.950 save % 5v5. Skinner was a hair above .860. Florida basically got every single bounce and the oilers got none. Add in Bob. Knob’s coaching decisions were also head scratching. Maurice hard matches Barkov and his 2 best d-men against McDavid. Perry made no sense on that line. Knob, inexplicably, throws Drai up there so now Maurice has zero worries of having to match lines against Drai. Oilers didn’t get the goaltending and Bob was unreal. Imagine is the Oilers could kill a freaking penalty….

Great post.

Special teams need to be much better. You could see the Oilers playing scared of taking penalties and then played a simple 5v5 game. Everyone is ripping on our depth in finals because they didn't "show up" offensively but they didn't get caved either.

Ironically enough here are the 5v5 GF and GA in finals for all 13 forwards:

Draisaitl 4GF 9GA (-5)
McDavid 3GF 8GA (-5)
Perry 3GF 7GA (-4)

Nuge 1GF 3GA (-2) injured
Brown 1GF 3A (-2) injured
Frederic 1 GF 2 GA (-1) injured
Kane 3GF 4GA (-1)
Henrique 1GF 2GA (-1)

Arvidsson 2GF 2GA 0
Kapanen 3GF 3GA 0
Skinner 1GF 1GA 0

Podkolzin 4GF 3GA +1
Janmark 3GF 1GA + 2

Statistically the depth didn't really hurt the team outside of those guys that were injured. The bigger problem was that the McDavid Draisaitl-Perry line was utterly dominated.

Now you can blame that on goaltending or playing from behind and I think their is some truth to that.
Putting Drai and McDavid together with Perry was the height of stupidity. Knob was badly outcoached. So was Coffey with his nonsensical pairs and deployment

We led only 33mins of the whole final series. The Panthers led 255mins of the series. We didn't even get one regulation W, we couldn't beat them without OT, and one of the games on a fluke own goal. This was as bad as the AV's sweep years ago. I agree with others that we were closer last season. Winning the first game this year gave the illusion of something else but it was dispelled by game 2 and 3 and the rest.

We lost several good players and prospects after last season that were all better than most of what we brought in. The team signed Arvid and Skinner a year ago and nobody even wants them now. The players were never going to work here which I said from the start.

This org has limited ability to obtain what it needs. It committed the cardinal sin of losing its prospects and developing players.

The thing is the old vet move was a desperate moonshot designed to take a cup this season. Ultimately we failed and lost our futures players. .

I think it would have worked out ok if we also shored up goaltending.

But alas, we didn't.

A lot of score effects in that series, hard to get good looks when you're down early every game and the other team noted for their defensive acumen can just make you go through multiple layers time and time again and wait for you to make a mistake.

You can see this data in the advanced stats from this year's playoffs quite starkly. While trailing, the Panthers let up 2.69 xGA/60 and 2.97 xGF/60 (9.00 HDCA/60). While tied they give up 3.02xGA/60 and generate 3.02 xGF/60 (10.61 HDCA/60). While trailing they generate 3.42 GF/60, and 3.21 GA/60 (12.20 HDCA/60).

Particularly in this matchup, falling behind just kills you.

I’m just waiting for Bowman to sign some veteran backup to “help out” Skinner and then have sub 900 goaltending all year again.

Maybe I’m being pessimistic.
