When they say players doesn't owe anything to the team. That's true. But at least give the team a few years of service. You're getting paid millions to play hockey

The oilers defence is in a desperate situation and that’s perfectly healthy with all hands on deck.

Oilers need a big trade now.
yes it bad, but no we don't.

44 days until the season starts, nothing NEEDS to be done now.

Waiting for camp to start and seeing what shakes out on other teams and if anyone get marked surplus or waived is smarter than blowing our load now.

I don't know, he can't skate at this level anymore. Sure he is smart with the puck, probably one of the best puck mover we have had but he was slow a couple of years ago.
His passing is also a bit overrated. He is very good in the offensive zone but his game in every other zone struggles

I'd prefer a defensive dman with Nurse
That's a mistake. Nurse has no good first pass. He always ices it. We need a puckmover with him. This is why trading Broberg was a mistake. He could get to the puck on time in the D zone and he could rush it out with no mistake (in my opinion lol)

Gonna have to take flyers on players like Boqvist, Valimaki, Kostin, Podkolzine ... players like that when they pop up on the market for peanuts.

Our own internal drafting at this point likely isn't going to yield much for the forseeable window, our next 1st is 2026, that player probably won't be ready to significantly contribute until 2029 at the earliest, that pick is probably a goner at this year's deadline anyway.

Can't rely on drafting anymore, the Oilers had a window to do that in (2015-2023) and they largely blew it, even if they hit pay dirt on a fluke pick in the 3rd/4th round at this point, again you're probably waiting until 2029 or 2030 for such a player to really be a big contributor most likely.
Yes we actually can rely on drafting. We have a different drafting team with Parketti

With Emberson and Stetcher I don’t really see the point of signing any of these fringe guys anymore. Schultz, Barrie, Lindstrom etc. We don’t need more maybes. If we're adding a RHD it needs to be someone that is legitimate top 4 guy. Otherwise it just feels like a bit of a waste of time.

And Justin Schultz is better? He had a miserable season as Seattles 6/7 dman and is 34 years old.
Stecher? Lmao good luck with that

The problem is the time line on drafting and developing now basically moves you out of McDavid/Drai's prime.

Even if you hit on a pick at the 2025 draft where we have no 1st rounder, it's likely then as a 2nd-6th round pick say that such a player would need about 4 years before they are a big ticket contributor to the team.

And that's if a lot of things go right.

2026 1st is probably gone too.

The Oilers needed to have their shit together on this front like 3-5 years ago, it's a bit late for the McDavid era at this point.
