The Oilers should call Utah and see if you can do something like Nurse++++ for Weber and Valamaki

The Oilers can stretch their LTIR to fill their holes, Utah improves their depth.
What is the ÷÷÷÷

Also why does Nurse waive his NMC to go to Utah? People already feel sorry for Ceci going to SJ. Utah is not much better

Anyone else get the feeling that Tavares might be an Oiler in a year?
MOPE.

Nurse for Sergachev I would do all day. If a deal like that goes thru. I would hope Oilers swing a deal for Askarov. Get that Russians connections going.

I thought Barrie was okay with him and I'd be okay with a PTO but I'd rather give Stecher and Emberson a chance there. I suppose that could still happen in preseason even with Barrie here.
Emberson is going to be better than Ceci. His defensive metrics are very very good considering the team he was on. He also can skate well enough and has a decent pass.

On the other hand I do not think Brown is as good as Vinny. Got to hope Stecher has fully recovered from his surgery. I also think Akey will surprise but more development can't hurt.

Akey is probably 2-3 years away similar to Brock Faber

Poor Nurse, if his AAV was 5M and he was playing where he is supposed to (to match his skill), he would never get mentioned
Unfortunately his contract causes all kinds of problems for us
Holland got spooked hard about Nurse leaving.

Nurse seems like a decent guy and there's no doubt he cares but his warts get exposed at the worst possible times.

I actually think that Nurse has been consistently good in the sense that most of the time he is on the ice the trend is positive but he has lapses that are incredibly costly. He can play well for 95% of a game and make that big error that is a dagger to the heart. It's not like he is being shelled all that often. The problem is that there seems to be no way to rectify those lapses.
Thats a fair take...he isnt bad the entire game most times.
Although I do think its closer to 85% good and 15% bad at the very best and more realistically 80%/20%.

Barrie at league minimum would be an absolute steal. I think he still got it. We know he works well here.
Barrie is a great guy but that’s a bad idea. We simply can’t keep getting older and slower and smaller and not have it reach a tipping point. The Barrie of today is also inevitably worse than he was the day he was traded away simply due to age.

Barrie was traded for Ekholm and he was a cap casualty. He was fine as a #4/#5 here but at 4.5M, it was too expensive. At 700k, it's a fair gamble as his contract can still be buried. And he works well with Nurse and on our PP

It’s pretty much a dead-nuts certainty that Bouchard will get all the PP time, as he should. That means Barrie would be harder to shelter than during his tenure here. He’s that much older now and he was already getting to be a below average skater. How many #6 or 7 D can we ice? Better to give extended auditions to the younger guys we already have.

I would like to see him on a PTO so he can be evaluated and then a decision to sign him can be made.
Im wondering how much his game has dropped off...if at all.

A lot of posters are fine with Troy Stecher who is 5' 10" tall and approx 180 lbs.
Barrie is 5' 11" and 195 lbs.
If Barries skating hasnt dropped off then he might be a better option than Stecher.
Barrie on a PTO would be fine by me.

Plus with our upgraded forward depth I bet we play our 2nd PP unit more. Having another PP specialist might be useful. If it upgrades the 2nd unit, maybe our top players can be either used more 5 on 5, or just have minutes reduced and kept fresher/ healthier

I've never wanted to see a prospect fail before but I'll make an exception for Broberg and Holloway.
Meh. If they both pan out all that does is extend the Blues window of mediocrity. They'll be great trade chips one day

His play shouldn't drop off that much. Nashville doesn't know how to use him. Look at Fabbro and Carrier. I don't think they're getting the most out of those 2 as well

If his AAV was 5 million he would be an absolutely insane steal. Look at the dmen who make around 5 million as a UFA

Zadorov - 5.0
Ristolainen - 5.1
Chiarot - 4.75
Roy - 5.75
Oleksiak - 4.6
Graves - 4.5
DeMelo - 4.9

They’re all like #4 dmen at best. Heck, he’s still better than guys who make substantially more than 5, such as

Severson - 6.25
Orlov - 7.75
Vlasic - 7.0
Skjei - 7.0
Faulk - 6.5

Ummm nope.

Depressing how fast some vaunted Oilers' prospects rapidly fall out of the league once the Oilers move away from them: Yakupov, Jay-Poo, now Yamamoto. We'll see what happens to Broberg and Holloway.

Shows you how shitty our drafting and development are.
