Rumor NHL Might Go Back to White Jersey at Home Dark on the Road in Next Cba

As a Flames fan I am torn-ish. If it goes to white, we are no longer the C of Red (we still would be as most fans would still rock red jerseys), but the current Flames road white jersey is SO f***ING GORGEOUS. Genuinely one of the best jerseys in the history of jerseys, it's perfection.

I think it'd be a mistake overall though, if it goes back to white everyone's home colour is white and you lose all unique-ness.

NHLPA: We’d like to wear the white unis at home.
Bettman: ok, in exchange we will need to make ELCs 10 years long and move the first year of UFA to age 40.
NHLPA: done!!

Every team gets to have as many jersey colours as they can design and carry on the road.

Before the game starts, coin flip to see who picks their jersey colours first.

Jersey colours change every period.

Sell all the game worn jerseys.

I hate this. Teams' main identity is typically the dark jersey, not the white one. Why would you wear your second-best jersey on home ice? Makes no sense to me and never has.

I've heard the "as a season ticket holder seeing the games live, I like seeing the other teams' colours" argument, but that honestly makes my eyes roll even if valid.

There are many of us that didn't like the change to dark at home 20 years ago.

I guess now you will have to eat it like "we" had to eat it back then
I always preferred the white unis at home but a) that’s what I grew up with and b) it’s not a heavy leaning. Just like 55-45 in favor go white home unis.
End of the day, a change is nice. Maybe they should just leave it up to the home team though?

I'm OK with this cause all the great Habs moments I was privy to at home was when they wore the white jerseys in the 80s. There was something special about them and watching Hockey Night in Canada with Big Bird flying on the ice with that jersey every Saturday Night.

Although to please both camps, why not just do 50-50?

What a great scam to get fans to buy "new" home jerseys.
Is it though? The jersey isn’t any different than it currently is, they just wear it at home vs the road. Would people really decide to buy a new jersey because they change what is worn at home vs the road( I guess there are some people that would but I’d think most people just buy the jersey color they like best…if they only have one. I’ll use the Leafs as an example. If you go to a game in Toronto, not sure you’d see more Blue Jerseys than white.

Thinking about this though….the home town fans at a game see the same colour jerseys every single game…if they go white at home, they’d get different colors each game. I grew up with white as home but now am used to color as home….sometimes people change for the sake of change I guess

Exactly, it's not like teams would have to wear white at home 100% of the time, just predominantly white to make sure road teams don't have to carry around both sets.

Actually, I think I'd be ok with the idea of home teams bringing out their roads (non-white) if it's a contrasting colour from the road team around 5 times a season. For fans who consider it important to see their team's dark jerseys, it'd make it way easier to pick games where that is more likely to happen (e.g. Leafs fans would gravitate to games vs red teams)

I don't care, I rarely go to games anymore, i always liked white jerseys anyway. however I wish there was less red and black jerseys in the league. I am a fan of colour on colour though, but its not viable right now with too many teams having the same colours.

This is a good decision, and they never should have changed it in the first place.

Every single game you see at your home barn looks the same. Your team's color vs white visitor.

The reason that they changed it, as I understand it, was because almost every team's 3rd jersey was dark, and they didn't want teams to have to take 2 sets of jerseys on the road.

They probably got feeedback from their advertisers that the jersey ads don’t stand out enough.

But on a clean white jersey those ad patches should really pop.

Never should have been changed to begin with. White at home all the way. I support this just as much as getting rid of daylight savings time. No sarcasm here. Let's get it done.

I used to be a WAH person myself, I no longer feel that way. Every team has a white jersey and white...speaking for myself, anyway...is just a boring color to have as the "primary" color on a uniform. I like it as a secondary color, but not as the main color.

I'd rather, if anything, there be more color vs. color a la soccer, but I understand the demands this puts on equipment managers so it's fine that we don't have that. But I don't think I'd ever be much of a fan of reinstating white as the home uniform.

Color on color only for short road trips, but also only against clubs where the colors won't clash.

Like Toronto can only go color on color with like Boston, Ottawa, Detroit, and maybe Florida. Can't with Mon, Buf, TB. Main diff with Mon/Fla is the color of their helmets, navy vs royal blue, which is too close to the Leafs colors.

So, Toronto could bring their blues to the sunshine state, but only FLA could wear their darks. TB would have to wear white.

I personally, like some consistency, only because I do like to see hi-lites to instantly know which city the 2 clubs are playing in. That's an issue with the NBA now as with all of the color on color, can't see right away which club is at home. NFL, majority of clubs wear their darks at home, save for Dallas and the warm weather clubs in Sept and early Oct as white is cooler to wear. MLB, home club wears white pants at the very least.

NHL during their 75th anniversary swapped in the new year. So, from Oct to Dec, dark at home, then Jan to April, white at home. Then, pick one for the PO. That satisfies both sides IMO.
