Rumor: NHL might go back to white jersey at home, dark on the road in next CBA.

I like the ideas of either switching at the halfway point, or doing the Euro soccer route of primarily wearing your main jersey unless they clash.

In theory a team’s current alternate would be the secondary jersey, and the road whites would be the tertiary.

If they must make the swap I’d Rather they just alternate every year at least make it interesting for fans to see the away teams jerseys without permanently making white be the home jersey for the next several years. That way teams that have better white jerseys could be satisfied and teams with more iconic colored jerseys don’t get the shaft for several years until the next CBA

Teams shouldn't have home and away, they should go to the soccer standard of having primary, secondary, and tertiary kits. Home team chooses, road team can wear whichever kit is deemed not to clash with the home team's choice.
Fans like to go to the arena wearing the color of the team, especially during playoffs. It would look a little off if they showed up in blue for primary and then the team is like "we're going secondary tonight".

Easy enough to handle that, just do what the NFL does and have a jersey schedule release before the season, or at the start of the month, or something like that. Then everyone (who cares enough to know) will know what color you're wearing for a given game, and can dress accordingly.

I’m old so the current way still feels like a trendy fad to make money and it’ll be over soon.

So I have no problems with it. It’s so hard wired in me that I still have to remind myself who’s home by remembering they switched it pretty much every time.

I mean they do that now with the 3rd jerseys. But I still thinks Soccer generates more fans across the teams for MLS/FIFA, where NHL is typically made up of the home team, unless you're in an area semi-close to to another arena, doing a road trip, being a tourist, or strictly traveling for the game. I don't see NHL needing to adapt this and should just stick to the 1 jersey plus 3rd at home.

I don't even think it should be that the home team decides. Each team should designate a primary and secondary jersey. One of the two has to be a white jersey. The primary is always worn, except when two teams' primaries are too similar. Then the road team wears their secondary. A team can even choose to make their white jersey their primary in this scenario like the suggestion about the Jets up above.

Then there's a league database that determines when a secondary has to be worn (i.e. Rangers and Blues can't both wear their blue jerseys).

We'd get a lot more blue vs red, red vs yellow, etc in this scenario.

As i am a huge fan of the Winnipeg White-out i very much like the idea of whites at home.

Now, just make an actual good white jersey...

:thumbu:

this is great for NYR since the whites are even better than the blues
My two favourite jerseys in the league are both white:

Detroit Red Wings 2017-present - The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database

New York Rangers 1990-96 - The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database

I like what they do in basketball -- let the home team wear what they feel like wearing that day.

Then you really get to mix it up.

It's a problem on road trips where you have to pack like 2x the gear for every team then.
