I want it so bad, but I understand the backlash. Ultimately, there are two things at play here:

1. Yes, it is absolutely better to get the colour variation game to game by having home wear white and road wear a colour.

2. The quality of white jerseys needs to be improved significantly. Some teams get it (DET, BUF, BOS, NYR, CGY, MIN, DAL, STL), but many could be waaay better.

I just made a new CBJ set recently (after seeing the chevrons on CBJ's Winter Classic jersey), and I think it's an example of how you could make this change a welcome one:

No whites, home or away. Every team should have a solid color and a black jersey.
IMO the worst trend in pro sports uniforms is when teams wear black jerseys when there’s no black in their color scheme.

Reminds me of those off brand fake jerseys you’d see someone selling on the sidewalk where it has the team’s name on the back instead of a player's

would look like 98-99 rangers on ice with that white version. red pants on both teams. does columbus still wear blue pants on occasions? it's a better look

Changing from whites at home to darks is the best decision the NHL has made in the past 25 years. Reversing it would be monumentally stupid

They should let the local team choose.

Example - I'm a Habs fan. Montreal player 41 games in Montreal. Let them do something like:

~15 games they wear whites
~15 games they wear red and other teams where whites
~11 games they were red and other team wear their own colors (ie Habs in red vs Leafs in Blue)

And it would be up to Montreal's management to decide who wears what for Montreal games. And same for other markets. Can fluctuate

Whites are just as hard to clean at home as on the road. I'd rather it stays as is. It keeps the stained whites where they belong.... "In the closet" / "In the garbage dump"

They were made to be replaced as often as toilet paper.

I am old old where i remember the oiginal change from this to whites at home and darks on the road.
Fun fact - it was HNIC that suggested moving to home whites in 1970. They thought it would make for more interesting broadcasts with colorful visiting Jerseys. (At the time of the suggestion it was just Toronto and Montreal on hnic.).

The reason for the switch to coloured homes was totally money. More opportunity to sell alternates etc and some cost savings/efficiencies on the road only taking whites. But the cost savings was a distant second reason.

Those suggesting the switch back to whites at home is for money - I don’t really understand.

This will be an interesting move. For teams newer than 2004, they have built their identity on those coloured jerseys (see @hangman005 and the sweet gold Vegas homes). So I’m not sure how widely this will be embraced. Obviously as a jets fan I friggin love it.

I would say I’d love it more if you had the option of having lights at home and darks on road. Designate certain colours as light or dark. Vegas could keep their golds at home. Teams can wear white when at home if they want. And Nashville can keep their ugly yellow jerseys and finally get a blue one. We all get more colourful jerseys.

Will we see a return of la kings true colours and jersey sets?

I'd want to watch my team in the team colors at home because there are like two white jerseys in the league that aren't boring as hell.
 Oh, is that so? Ok, so out of EDM, BOS, DET, STL, NYR, BUF, CGY, MTL, MIN - which 7 are "boring as hell"?

... ok, I'll give you Utah, CAR, TB, NJ, WPG, LA, SJ, poor confused VAN, and even TOR, those could all use a bunch of improvement...

One of the dumbest arguments in hockey. Just let everyone do what they want. Color vs. color would be ok, but you only have like 6 teams that don’t wear blue, black, or red.
The easiest argument for this: the change was originally motivated by the introduction of 3rd jerseys, and most of them not being white - teams wanted to wear those at home. But, you could always just reserve the 3rd jersey (and occasionally, "road" jersey) nights for games against teams whose "road" jerseys wouldn't clash with the home team's primary colour!

If you have a black 3rd jersey, for example, schedule that for a game vs. DET, CGY, DAL, PHI, etc... Just avoid black and navy teams (OTT, CBJ, LAK, etc) and you would just need to know in advance which teams are wearing a black/navy 3rd on the road, if any of them decide to do that!

And if you're Nashville.......... no need to think about this at all!
