The entitlement is strong in this one……..
Comes from his Dad who had the temerity to call up radio talk shows to complain because Mitchie wasn’t being considered seriously enough to be the next captain of the team. That’s Pee Wee level stuff that breeds that entitlement and inability to admit when he or the team hasn’t performed up to expectations.

Nice thoughts but Marner is not waiving his NMC because if we was open to it he would have done it in the summer. He’s also not going to help the team out by accepting a two year contract. He will be in the prime of his career at 28 and will want to be paid at least Matthews money if not more on a long term deal. He’s seen the NHL salary cap projections and he and his agent will be using that to leverage the highest paid contract they can. It’t unfortunate but that’s what motivates most players these days. There are very few players willing to accept anything less than top dollar to help build a stronger team around them. McDavid, MacKinnon, Bergeron, Marchand are the exceptions.
Totally agree .if he loved toronto as much as he says
Hed have signed by now
This is getting tiresome ..time to not a vladdy guerero scenario take over

Does he think it is possible for him to be worse than he has been in regulation if he is not the last to leave the ice? If I am Cooper, he is out for Jarvis in the final.
Marner trying to emulate other stars, because other stars do it. Stars also typically are known for their intense preparation like physical training and eating healthy...but he's not interested in those part of being a star. Those are too hard. Online gaming and lake life is more important than that rubbish.

Like Cooper said... "he puts himself at that elite level.." and also indicated that Marner overall is not that skilled compared to his peers "He doesn’t do a whole bunch of things that a lot of guys on both teams do better than him."

LOL! Captain of inferring is back at it! You have no idea what it means to him. No one does unless you are in his brain.

Speculative, no factual basis, wild claim.

Not to mention that you’ve selectively, cherry picked a quote from Cooper.

I genuinely want to know how you managed to have people support your posts. It like they blindly accept this nonsense and just ignore basic educational standards. Misrepresentation of quotes, highly speculative posts that are not based in fact are now glorified.

You've been speaking with his agent?

Exactly. Cooper in his postgame presser said he had a group chat with his "best players" after game 2. Marner of course wasn't part of that group.

Clearly, none of those best players, came to bat for Marner in that meeting, nobody was begging to have Marner on their line.... which is why Marner ended up on the checking line.

Marner wasnt part of the initial team picks, he doesnt have a letter on the club, he isnt part of the best players that Cooper meets with... yet he's standing trying to outwait 36 year old Marchand and 37 year old Captain Crosby.

It really is mind boggling.

I think we all know Marner’s a bit of a twerp but for the sake of your peace of mind don’t get fixated on his weird little isms and oddball stuff. He’s kind of immature for his age and status and is going to culture clash with guys who are more mission oriented.

Only thing that ever matters is what happens on the ice anyway.

Agrees immature.

Im not reading into it. I think the behind the scene stuff is just as important as the game we see. Stories of rifts always come out later... like for instance Columbus leaders apparently requesting Laine be traded. Or the recent drama with Miller in Vancouver.

Hockey has always been a sport built on respect. Avery even touched on it recently when telling a story about when he was a rookie, he said he chirped everyone. But when he tried to chirp Joe Sakic, Avery's own teammate Brett Hull immediately yanked him back and told him, "You don’t get to talk to Mr. Sakic." And at that moment Avery knew he couldnt even speak to certain stars.

There are long-standing respect traditions in hockey, such as players willingly giving up their numbers to newly acquired, higher-profile teammates and the courtesy of requesting permission before wearing a former star’s unretired number Etc etc.

People often underestimate how much these traditions matter to NHL players.

Marner playing these waiting games with veterans and team leaders on this stage is unnecessary and childish. Marchand and Crosby have more important things to focus on during this tournament than dealing with this kind of distraction from Marner.

Also, Marner needs to read the room. He's a bit of a distraction because the media wants to always talk about him (and his confidence etc). Sure, part of its because he's from Toronto but alot of it is because of his past actions. Marner isn't a captain, and isn't a leader on this team. He just needs to be a team player - blend in and lay low...but he can't help himself.

Would Cooper actually scratch Marner tomorrow?

I would absolutely laugh my ass off if he did. The childish on and off the ice game with Crosby is enough alone. SID is the Captain and the elder. You let him do his thing no questions not play childish games.

I don't want to see him back in this market tbh. Cooper had to take him off the top 6 in an elimination game. Maybe it's not Matthews shitting the bed, maybe it's because Marner is dragging him down.

Seems pretty plausible

he didn't play a game with Crosby. Everyone on planet earth knows that Crosby has always come out second last in Pittsburgh. So what is the issue? Crosby is the most superstitious player out there, there was 0% chance he was going out last anyways, he never has. As always it's getting blown out of proportion.

"Organizing"? Almost sounds like he's desperate to find something nice to say.

That’s a lame excuse, my father was everything opposite of what a good father should be, yet somehow I turned out okay, the “everyone has a excuse” mentality is what’s killing society today. Back when I worked on every mirror in every washroom was a decal that stated “you’re looking at who is most responsible for your safety.” Accountability has gone AWOL in todays world imo………

It's so weird that so many just turn into ostriches because of the "goals scored," where are those "goals scored" when it matters, nowhere.

So far in 4 Nationa

Marner 3gp 1G 0A 1pts

Matthews 3gp 0G 1A 1pts

And the big boy may not play in the final

It's somehow familiar
To complete the picture:

Marner 1G 0A -2 0.33 ppg
Matthews 0G 1A 0 0.5 ppg
Nylander 0G 2A +1 0.67 ppg

The way Marchand stopped skating and just stood by the door. Wonder how he felt about a player 10 years younger and on the same team as him trying to out wait him?

Also this:

Understandable that Crosby and Marchand would have to settle with Marner about who gets what superstition.

Maybe they figured Marner needed all the (superstitious) help he could get.

I don’t think comparing overpaid underperforming stiffs to each other is making the point you think it is………
Since I wasn't trying to make a point....

The poster I responded to was comparing 2 of the 3 Leafs, and I just completed the comparison by adding the third, who is actually the least overpaid and the least underperforming.

I know this is not a way to look at it necessarily but Marner now finds himself on the third line with Hagel and Cirelli, two players making mid 6 million per.

Marner did not look good playing alongside McDavid and he’s far from a top player on this team. Why are we about to make him the highest paid player on team Canada from the Leafs? Insanity…

It would be such a crime to let a player of Marner’s caliber to just walk to free agency but to pay him 13+ million is just setting this team up for continued playoff failures. 11.5 million (match Nylander) would be the highest I would be willing to go. If he doesn’t agree, try a sign and trade and get something in return and use the cap space in free agency.

The Nylander deal with a cap of $95.5m is $12.55m. The guy has not accepted the Leafs ceiling $13m.

The highlighted has been my position since day 1 and why we should not sign him until we see how he performs under Berube in the playoffs. If he plays as well in the playoffs as he has in this tournament, let him walk.

In before all the "you can't let a player like that walk for nothing froth".

We can and we will. No wait, sorry, that's if I owned the team.

The response will be more along the lines of, "here is your check sir fill it in as you please. Of course you will have a full no trade clause, you are THAT special I would never think of offending you without that complete protection. Can I get your slippers and perhaps make you a nice hot cup of cocoa while you decide how much you are worth? I bought marshmellows..."

Addition by subtraction, as long as his dollars were wisely spent……..
