If you drive on I-5 going north from Salem, I think just past the Portland Road exit, there’s a billboard seemingly promising that Wienerschnitzel will soon arrive in Oregon. But there’s a phone number on the billboard, which suggests they’re looking for franchise buyers. It’s not lost on me that the next exit leads you to what is, until sometime next year, the furthest north outlet of In-N-Out Burger. By the way, In-N-Out doesn’t franchise FWIW. Also, my wife grew up in Fresno, is fond of Wienerschnitzel, and there’s a couple of them up in Puget Sound. We’ll see one next week.

A few months ago, Sacramento State shook up realignment talk when city leaders and potential investors pledged millions to a stadium rebuild (hard to say renovation when it’s a bleacher feature in the first place) and an NIL fund, with a goal of moving from FCS to FBS, maybe even the Pac-12. We’ve heard several promises in the last 90 or so days. But this month, it was UC Davis (the other half of the Causeway Classic duo) who announced moving from the Big West to the Mountain West… everything but football. This, if you’re struggling to follow, says something about those who need to make noise versus those who quietly get their stuff in a row.
