It's a tier below the USHL, which is the equivalent of Junior A in Canada. Therefore it's the equivalent of Junior B in terms of tiers.
Of course it's going to have more NCAA commits given it's located in the United States., where players are more likely to play college hockey than major junior.
The USHL at the moment is definitely not the equivalent of Canadian Junior A by any measurement...
In terms of quality, the USHL (at the moment) is pretty on par with the CHL. They would beat the wheels off any Canadian Junior A leagues.
In terms of draft picks, the USHL's 16 teams had 49 alumni drafted in the 2024 NHL Draft, which was a four year low in what scouts described as a weak showing. The CHL had a five year high with 88 players/alumni drafted between their 60 teams. Per team, that is 1.5 players drafted per team in the CHL vs over 3 for the USHL.
This is probably going to change with the recent NCAA decisions. But for the moment, any assertion that Canadian Junior A is the equivalent of the USHL is beyond absurd.
