Roy the Ongoing Discussion

Also didn’t watch that debacle against the Rangers as I was in Port Canaveral with my nieces and nephew getting them ready for a Disney Cruise but I checked the score and laughed. Roy shouldn’t have to explain himself. Lou made this bed and he needs to sleep in it and answer to it as well.

at least Roy manned up to the Lennox flub and didnt blame the previous administration.

season is a write off aside from Holmstroms development and the cup of coffee that George had proved we have somethin in him (steady 5-6 , 4-5 mobile 2 way guy)

I think Roy and Lou are around for at least 1 more season .

There's enough talent there.....maybe not to win a cup, but certainly to make the playoffs. Roy failed, and special teams are a big part of it. DeAngelo is an upgrade on the Cholowski/Boquist types and Holmstrom had a strong development season. Team could have done better under better coaching imo.
I don't know. When I looked at this roster in October, before the injuries to Barzal and others, I saw a fringe team that might again squeak into the playoffs and lose in the first round. And I think that's exactly what they are. A team in dire need of a rebuild around a retained core of maybe 5 guys

Unlike a couple of years ago, the team actually can now (or upon re-signing Dobson and Romanov) trade away other assets and keep a core of guys that are locked up long term. The concern earlier was that if they tore it down a Sorokin would not have extended and instead went UFA and sign with the Devs or someone. Now, whatever you call it, you can move forward around Sorokin, Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Romanov, Holmstrom, etc.. Take a step back for a year or so and then hopefully contend with guys a new GM gets (plus restock the pipeline by keeping picks).

Nice.

Where does Roy fit in all this?

And with that, we will continues to see this garbage on and off the ice next year. So expect the same results.

Can’t have it both ways. I said this fanbase is not ready or emotionally capable of handling any retool let alone rebuild. Lou believed in the current roster that 5 years ago or so was capable but with all these injuries and his absurd loyalties to extinct ex Devil players he has brought this team to where it is today. But that said he appears to now realize a retool is necessary and we’re just going to have to be learn to be patient. No coach, not even the more than capable Roy can fix this mess without astute moves by the team’s GM.

And BTW for large chunks of this season Roy played with a left sided AHL defense, no players at forward as playmakers, and in the last game forced to play 2 AHL goalies. How is Roy held to blame in all of this when this team as average as it was when healthy played extremely well sans PP which is really McCleans responsibility but Lou has kept the guy behind the bench.

Sorry Rehabguy, I'm really not trying to be mean but you are exactly the type of fan that is the problem. You see it as a minor tweak, and that the issues in this organization is minor. A break here or there we make the playoffs. Wow, really, so a break here or there we possibly squeak into the last playoff spot to get bounces in the 1st round again! You and other fans such as yourself put up with this and continue the support. You continue to make excuses for Lou, Roy and the team. Every freaking team has injuries, stop!! You act like we (isles) don't get any breaks. Did you know we are the least penalized team? We get so many breaks with referees not calling us for holding, hooking and interference....

This Organization is just a disaster....

- Lou does not see that this team needs to retool. Hell if Nelson (thank you Nelson) didn't reject Lou's contract offer, he would have 100% signed him. Lou couldn't get himself to move Parms either. JOKE
- Everyone needs to stop talking about the 2 times we went to the conference finals. That core, is done there are TOO old!!!
- If you think Malkin cares you are kidding yourself. He's just looking at selling tickets.
- Our coaches - are pitiful....please tell me I'm wrong.
-Look at what Lou had done to the AHL and our farm system!!! We are the worst in HISTORY....So Lou does nothing, keeps his son in charge.

What are you seeing that I'm not????

I thought the same thing. They could have made playoffs this season with less injuries, but even with the injuries that could have made the playoffs with just an even middling PP. This season was all coaching failures and not roster dependent, imo. Still would like to see LL replaced, but I'm just calling it how I see it.

I’m seeing everything you see. I just think Roy can fix all that. I’m all in for Roy taking over this organization in its totality. Say it as it is as he did with Duclair and Engvall. Is this not what we need? This organization does not need anyone who will sugarcoat the situation we are in. And take this team to a championship which he has done at every level throughout his career from player, coach, GM, and owner. All the things you mentioned are getting in his way but himself. He knows what needs to be done but his hands are tied and the changes necessary are major at this point. Hiring this coach as GM I guarantee you will not lead to the same debacle as in Nashville because this coach has real experience at that level. Heck if Roy could buy the team I would say let him! Like I said separate the baby from the bath water. All things out of his control aside Roy was doing a fine job. That’s the problem with this fanbase. They all wanted Lou and look what that got us. I was totally against hiring him for the very reasons you see today. I separated the GM at that time from the coach. We didn’t need to get rid of both. In regards to Lou this exact situation we are currently in got him kicked out of NJ. Why can’t people learn from history?

I think you blow it all up. Fire Lamoriello and Roy, trade Dobson and anyone worth anything. Need a total rebuild. Would love to land James Hagens in a trade/trade up.

Roy is one of my favorite players of all time, but the team has turned on him. I don’t have any ideas as far as replacements for Lamoriello & Roy, I just think the team has to move on.
