Roussel crosscheck to the face of McQuaid (suspended 2 games)

Sucker punching a player after hitting their goalie and cross checking someone in the face is clean to you?

The league is littered with guys who do that or worse. Stop acting like Antoine Roussel is something special to come into the league or is some new breed of NHL monster. Garbutt is trash and has a head about as thick as iron for as many chances as he's had. I want him off of my team on principle. Roussel has, by and large, been pretty clean for a player of his ilk. He isn't half as dirty as Steve Ott and that guy ended up a captain in this league.

When was the sucker punch you're talking about btw? I don't have every dirty thing my team has done on instant recall.

It's on the page before this one:

Yea, he was fined in November. Interestingly enough it was for punching an unsuspecting opponent when he sucker punched Braun while tied up by the linesman.

So perhaps that's why he "defended" himself as some are saying. He was thinking "Hey, if I was in his situation I'd sucker punch someone, so I better get the jump on him and do something even dirtier first"

You mean where I called it dirty, and reference the fact that he hit McQuaid in the throat on purpose? Thats more than you will hear from other on this board.

No - just the parts where you're trying to justify the hit to the throat - as I already said - despite opening with....

Not defending Roussel's dirty move, but I think McQuaid stretched his leg out to try and make some contact on the hit, and struck Roussel's leg, causing him to spin a bit. Roussel then turns and cross checks McQuaid in the throat out of anger.

...and then going on to do just that - attempt to justify the cross check. Your last dozen words say it all - doesn't matter how angry - there are some things you don't frigging do!

Thanks. I remember that now. Roussel is a dick, but these things are pretty rare.

Roussel is a good player who goes over the edge sometimes, this stick to the throat being the worst I can recall. He's no Marchment, that's for sure.

Garbutt maybe but just about every team in the league would take Roussel on their team. He is about as hard working and clean a pest you will find.

Wait Roussel is clean? Is this the matt cooke found religion kind of clean?

He's the best definition of a rat that the nhl has.

Boston got so soft, Nobody wouldve done such a thing to one of their players couple years ago, or at least without paying the price... They used to be really fun to watch, having a good system mixed with physicality and intimidation, especially against the habs, but now, their games are not entertaining. Bad management resulted in the inability of keeping players such as horton/iginla, boychuk and not resigning a guy like thornton is really hurting this team..

Roussel was ejected. The last chance any one had on him was McQuaid dropping his gloves over for the realitvely minor run that Roussel took. Boston's got issues, but standing up to players like Roussel isn't one of em.

So Roussel gets a pass because the league has had plenty of guys do similar or worse things than he has done, but Garbutt doesn't get the same pass? Is Garbutt the worst monster to play in the NHL? You can't give one a pass because others have done worse things without doing the same for the other. It's either they both get it, or neither does.

This is really simple. Garbutt does dirtier things than Roussel far more often. Trying to craft a narrative that casts both players in the same light because they are "similar types" of players, play for the same team, or play on the same line makes one come across as being out of their depth in the conversation.

You will have to show me where I said Roussel gets a pass here. He did a dirty thing and will probably miss a couple games for it. Garbutt has been suspended more than once this season. Until now, Roussel has not missed a single game due to suspension in his career.

Rous isn't clean on this one but he's way more than only a pest ;)

Yeah he's a spot picker for talent. He seemed to somehow magically find the intestinal fortitude to get all handsy with Getzy, but only when he was wearing jaw protection.

He is gonna gets his, and when he does no one is gonna she'd a tear. Goalie running situation ally brave players not above cross checking guys in the face gave a pretty short shelf life.

No he's not. His linemate might be though.

Garbutt is an idiot, but he doesn't target talent the way Roussel does. I remember when the stars and bruins went back to back to back to start a game. He can enjoy his two games off because hockey players have long memories. And if the paper comes calling, his unwillingness offers no refuge.
