Prospect Info: Round 6, Pick 168: Olle Lycksell, C, Linkoping (SHL Jr.)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He'll be back, needs the time to acclimate to NA ice, which is normal for most SHL players.
Showed good speed, has some strength for a finesse player, but not used to playing on crowded ice.

19g 2-8 10 at ES, which is good but not elite. [PP production in the AHL is often inflated, look at veteran scorers]
Anisimov made a big difference in his production.

He'll be back, Lycksell struggled a big in his NHL cameo, you could see the skills but the game was a bit fast.
He should be the first of the prospect forwards to be recalled.

You don't need to be elite in the AHL to contribute in the NHL. Especially if your team is a terrible situation not conducive to production.

Lycksell is better off on the 1st line in the AHL than the 4th line in the NHL with Brown as his center.
So there's no rush right now, with Farabee, JVR and Laughton/Cates as your top 3 LWs.
In a couple months, JVR will be dealt, and there will be a spot for Lycksell to play regular minutes in the top 9.

We all know that will not happen. Cates is also a center. Do not see him moving back to win the rest of this year. Unless they find 2 very good centers somewhere.

He will not play regular minutes in the top 9.

Playing in the 4th line is perfectly fine if coaches and management don't place all blame for results solely on him. Which they would.

He has stood out again in a positive way. Just doesn’t seem to be getting rewarded.

How much is it just bad luck, and how much does the sample size show he just doesn’t finish to the same degree against NHL level goalies?

Also… maybe unpopular thought, but while he’s getting a decent showing at the NHL level now, could there be a net organizational benefit if he (and Abols) were helping the AHL team make the playoffs?

Ollie has added organization depth as a 6th rd pick. That has value. He really doesn’t add much at the NHL level that I can see;. Doesn’t stand out at all. Whether they keep him, or he moves on not going to have any impact at the NHL level. I suspect he gets a good 2 way deal that pays him a nice chunk of change in the AHL to stay. Then will be up to him to decide what he wants.

They've gotten utility out of him. Probably could have gotten more than they have. It's a win.

Debatable they could have received more. No other organizations saw fit to take a shot.

Like we both said you need guys like him in the organization. Future European scout for being a loyal soldier.
