The Leafs are making this a lower event game which is great, but they need to do a better job in front of goal, both offensively and defensively.

Rough start for Marner - but won't last. He's too good for that

Matthews and Marner are both playing timid and small right now. You can see when Matthews is engaged or not by those wide looks vs stops and starts, and when he's overwhelmed he has a tendency to reach in and try to poke check as opposed to just getting into space. He's playing scared and wants to use the stick strip a puck but not using any body positioning to leverage. Marner just starts finger painting and you see inappropriately fancy puck touches on routine plays. Classic signs.
