GDT: Round 2 Game 2

Quick fact. Carolina has had the lead for zero seconds in this series.

One thing I notice about Carolina is they have played perimeter a lot which leads to time in opponent's zone merely just cycling to point men. They will make shots, but I don't see too much traffic in most of those. That's not a recipe for success in the playoffs and Andersen made some quality saves. If the Caps can punish them more and rattle Andersen, I believe they can wrap this up quick. At first I complained about the low shots, but then when watching other games, the shot totals are low. Last night's Oilers/Knights game was pretty low going into the third. That's with the Oilers offense. The Caps certainly have had better quality shots. The loss of Fever is tremendous not because of depth, but due to his feisty play and clearing pucks.

Tom Wilson, I mean what a f***in player
It would've killed me had GMGM passed on him and he ended up in Philly... who of course was targeting him. They have missed the playoffs 5 straight years, only won 1 round during Tom's 12 year NHL career. Quite the failure feat when half the teams make it in.

To say he's my preferred type of player would be an understatement of tremendous magnitude.

bacchist and kicksavedave, why are you angry at me? Leonard will be good for us, but he needs to learn the NHL level game more and put some weight(muscle) on in the offseason.

True he is young and learning, but Raddysh doesn't bring much either. While Raddysh stands up for players and a utility guy, I don't see why he gets a sweater. Heck, put Frank out instead if they are looking for speed and scoring ability. For the record, I'm not a Raddysh hater, I just believe he's not the answer.

One of the best things to happen to this franchise.

Great observation and post. It's clear now that you say it, they work the perimeter a ton which leads to zone time and zip in shots when they can. Gasses our team and lets them dictate play.

Fever was our big hitter on D and its a big loss. Pummeling canes on the perimeter is needed. We talked about adding forward depth at the dead.. injury struck and here we are.

AA is hanging in there. It sure seems like his play dropped a bit after eating that stick....

Ya'all are genuine amateurs. The best hangover cure is 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. And if you can't get that, then wear it like a badge of honor.

At my aging age (44 going on 45 soon enough), I can hang with the best of the younger folks. And have! All night if I have to drinking.

But the next day, I am out cold for 12 to 14 hours. Don't you dare bother me! Because I won't even register it lol.

This is easily the most Millennial post ever. Keep all that crap far far away from my GenX self. Everyone knows that the best hangover cure is a glass of water, 2 ibuprophen, and a shot of bourbon. You're welcome.
I actually hate Red Bull except when I’m hungover. I’m sure there’s a reason/science behind it but normally a black coffee guy because I don’t like sweets. Ibuprofen kills my stomach. Is that what getting old is like?

I’m more of the lost generation rather than a millennial I think. If you started high school with dial-up internet and if the only cell phones available were actual brick car phones that weighed 15 pounds, I don’t think you qualify as a millennial.

I'm a Xennial. On the cusp of gen x and millenials. I love millenials. My sister is 11 years younger than me. Full millenial. Love her to death. But I could never.
LOL! I have 3 sisters who are all millenials... 10, 14, and 17 years younger. But same dad so I suspect they'd agree with me on hangovers.

If we drafted him he would have never evolved past the fourth line goon he was the first couple years of his career. Flyers can't develop players for shit.

While the offensive zone cycling doesn't generate Carolina many high danger shots, it does make the other team spend all their energy on defending. Then when they finally get the puck back they have no energy to create rush chances the other way. Rush chances are how we scored a lot of our goals this year and it's why Carolina isn't a great matchup for the Caps.

Carberry's biggest question mark after game 2 has to be what to do about the 3rd line. Raddysh did not provide much of a spark. I would go Leonard for game 3 and honestly consider going Frank for game 4 if the play doesn't improve. Frank's speed might be a threat against Carolina's press, and it cannot hurt their possession game (worse to worser?). Mango by himself has been quite solid (he made a key hit that helped spring McMichael's breakaway), but the entire line has been completely swamped in the 2nd round.

FWIW, I also thought Protas was awful last night, and the fancy stats agree. I'm not worried about him long-term, though, and he's been a big* asset on the PK.

*pun intended

Chychrun continues to prove me wrong, and I'm very happy to be wrong. He & Carlson had a massive bounceback game 2 defensively.
IMO, with his speed, Frank should absolutely get a sweater.

Yeah, that never happens. I used to roll in on 4 hours of sleep. now I need 6-7. Can do 5. So post night maintenance is critical. Water (and i chug it). IBUx3. Airborne. Liquid IV in the morning. IBUx3. Multi-vitamin. Airborne. Go!
