GDT: Round 2 Game 2

The biggest thing with pulling a young player out of the lineup is communication, and I trust Carberry (and GMCP) to send the right message. My guess is that this yields the following:

Ovechkin - Strome - Protas
McMichael - Dubois - Wilson
Mangiapane - Eller - Raddysh
Duhaime - Dowd - Beauvillier

Will be interesting to see line rushes.

I expect a big pushback tonight (of course expected that g1p2 and g1p3)

PK going 3/3 and keeping CAR blanked for 49 mins are nice, but if you're only scoring 1, it ain't nice enufffz

Be smarter and quicker, take the body, sweep the leg, and get the gddmmn puck to the net and scrum it up
LGC!

This seemed to be the cause for concern with Eller at the TDL. He’s probably last on their F depth chart (or at least should be), as Raddysh and Leonard should both play over him, but he stays in the lineup because he’s a Center even though he shouldn’t be. He’s really just out there taking up space which isn’t good enough if you’re playing a team like Carolina.

Pulling someone out that can skate well seems like the exact opposite of what we should be doing.

In Carbs we trust, but the mental gymnastics that occur to pretend Lars Eller is not our worst player is frustrating.

Well, on the bright side, didn't Trotz sit Burky and Vrana a few times in the playoffs, and they responded with key goals the next time out?

Regardless of that, it's Eller's birthday. Tonight is probably going to show the high water mark for what you'll get from him in the playoffs.

Who is pretending this, the HF board or Carbs? He's clearly our 4th best(worst?) center, and the next up on the center depth chart is currently in Hershey.

I get questioning the rationale for Raddysh over Leonard, but who would you replace Eller with right now?

I advocated for trying out different guys at 3C when the season was winding down. Those meaningless games were a perfect opportunity to explore our center options.

Carberry is a great coach but his weakness is how he sucks up to his vets. He overplays Carlson on PP1, he for some reason put Pacioretty on the top 6 last year, and he kept Kuzy as the 1C no matter how awful he was.

To answer your question, McMichael would have been great as a 3C option, especially given how Beauvillier stepped up to a top-six role last series.

Well, hindsight is 20/20 and we could question every one of Carbs decisions that haven't panned out, but I prefer to consider that he's actually got us here with a roster that is still not complete (see: Eller)

Didn't answer the actual question right now though, which is who would anyone replace Eller with for G2 or G3 or G4?

Nah this ain't 20/20. Eller was disappointing shortly after we acquired him in November. He was a 4C being used as a 3C, it was obvious almost immediately.

Carberry f***ed up never exploring other option and management f***ed up not getting a real 3C. With that said you can still win with a bad 3C, especially with an elite 4C. So it's not all doom and gloom over here.

Its still hindsight, looking back at moves we made that we shouldn't have, or ones we didn't that we should have. My point is looking back and complaining isn't a solution. What do you recommend we do moving forward, in this series?

I'd also argue that its been pointed out many times that Dowd is the 3C in terms of playing time and Eller has been getting the lower 4C minutes almost from Day 1, so the team knew what they had with Eller all along.
