told my wife about that this weekend. She didn't believe me/it either.
In happy old man news- I moved into my lil apartment about 6 months ago, and it’s perfect for me, but I’ve needed one more piece of storage in a corner under the TV. Had a coffee table I’d yoinked from a street corner there, but I really needed somethin for shoes and knick knacks, with a top more at counter level. I refuse to buy furniture until I’m settled and until I stop seeing good shit on street corners, but it’s just about right place right time.
I walk around a city for 8 hours a day for work, nothing. I walk 5 houses down to go get my mum a Mother’s Day gift today- boom, the perfect lil cabinet unit is sitting right there, just waiting for me to struggle it back to my place.
Such a small thing, but it’s gonna make life so much easier. Waiting on it and getting it for free just makes the reward better. My positive spin on the fact that prices are already bullshit and only getting worse, I guess- be cheap on most things and you’ll enjoy splurges/rewards more. Anyway- it’s old Sabres red, too, hell of an add.
Not bragging, but I'm at the point in my life that I can afford most of whatever I want, but I live simply, too. Some of the favorite things I have in my sheds were garbage-picked and repaired / re-used. hand tools, lawnmowers, grow boxes, etc. My favorite long-sleeve pullover winter sleeping shirt I picked up off the road a couple decades ago, washed it, and put into the winter wardrobe. So soft and perfect weight/thickness to not sweat in. take it to hunting camp every year, also. Upcoming project for my covered back porch rebuild is to take an old southern yellow-pine built-in kitchen cabinet upper garbage-picked several years ago and modify it for use on the back porch as a base-cabinet for storing games, picnic items, etc. I have gone overboard in the past and hung on to crap I had no hope of time to restore to use, but I nipped that last year with a good purge. This weekend I'll build a face frame and carcass for (3) solid-wood desk drawers I picked a couple years ago and had in the attic eaves. I'll add salvaged casters and it will become a rolling under-the-workbench storage cabinet for my shop shed.
All the males in my dad's side of the family had/have that frugality. they all grew up in or were born in the depression, and carried that mentality throughout life and imparted to their families, the boys especially.
Conversely, as my wife reminds me, I could just be a cheap bastard. We had dinner a couple nights ago and my wife reminded me we went there for a first date or early date 13 years ago, and I brought a coupon.
Being covert only makes it harder for Law Enforcement to keep an eye on and track.
One of my frugal qualities is to keep old clothes for yard work, etc. which make me look rather homeless.
Some of my items are 30-40 years old. I told my wife I'll purge a good bit of it, but I need to keep at least one old pair of shoes, socks, pants, shirts, etc., which are so old that it would make it difficult for law enforcement forensics to match fibers, tread, etc. to a place of manufacture or purchase, before many of those databases were linked. Also, some old plastic bags, the aforementioned garbage picked yard tools, etc.
Just on the odd chance I needed to commit a heinous crime in the future.
I do have a recurring dream about bodies I buried being discovered. Note to all: I have never buried a body. Nor created a body requiring burying.
Stressin' today.
Yesterday I watched a wife and daughter say goodbye to their husband/father. He coded, we tried to revive, we failed, and then the emotional trauma starts.
My wife has been working 12 hour shifts 5 of the last 6 days/nights, so all the household stuff falls on me. That means my weekends mostly revolve around parenting the little guys. I get a couple hours to relax, then it's sleep, and back to the grind. It's wearing on my soul a bit.
This morning my mom comes over to help take the little guy to school since I have to go to work before school starts. First comment is about dishes being in the sink. Great conversation first thing in the morning. Then she can't find any breakfast for him because I haven't had a chance to go grocery shopping. While this is happening, I can't find my work ID.
So, a chaotic 5 days with an emotionally straining day of work yesterday, which was followed up with me getting hardly any down time after work which was followed up by a stressful morning.
Oyeeee...pray for me, people. This nursing schedule my wife is on can really freakin' strain me. Now we're trying for a 2nd kid, and I'm honestly not sure my mental health can handle a newborn thrown into this chaos.
My (deceased) mom would have done the dropoff, then without forewarning, returned to do the dishes, and buy some groceries. And my siblings and I would do the same thing presented the same situation.
Funny thing is the whole gay frogs is rooted in some truths since there's published scientific papers on the effects of atrazine on frogs, he just takes it to a whole nother level and it became meme.
there's no such thing as too much atrazine in your diet.
I have to wonder, if smart phones and social media was banned overnight, would people experience withdrawal? How would society react? There's such a dopamine rush from scrolling on the phone, and people lean in it when theyre bored, depressed, lonely, etc.. The younger generation would really struggle. We'd have to learn how to twiddle our thumbs when we're bored again, haha. The fallout would likely be pretty extreme.
definitely a preferred solution to legalizing public masturbation.
