Agreed. His shot is better than Toffoli’s ever was and that is no criticism of TT. If Arty learns to get open on NHL ice and can play passable defence he will be a superstar. There is risk there and I have always felt he was boom/bust ( have always felt he makes it), but by playing his best games of the WJC in the two most important games he has filled me further with confidence.Honestly, all of the criticism Kaliyev receives reminds me of Toffoli. I remember hearing how much his "shot" wasn't going to carry him in the NHL and that his skating would always keep him back, but he worked on it, trained with our development staff, and became a top-6 forward all the same. People are just looking for reasons to tear anything down, but I can't see anything that would prevent Kaliyev from having a successful NHL career except himself, and IMO his attributes and shot are better than Toffoli's.
How’d Laine do at the WJCs?

From reading some of the articles on The Athletic over some time, about Arthur...he really worked hard after the draft with the Kings strength guy and then with the one from his Hamilton team. That trainer said he could see a difference in his build, just from being in LA a short time...and he went to work with Arthur on core strength and leg strength...and some athleticism training. It sounds like he is committed to the physical work, conditioning and skating...as well as working on defense and positioning.
I think he's made marked improvements overall. He's a pretty powerful guy and looked good in battles and some board play. He is still a little slow and he will never be able to beat anyone...but if he plays a heavy game and effective on the boards, he will be fine. He sees the ice well and makes some great plays. 8 points in 7 games and the BIG GW goal.
What gets me, is that on soooo many powerplays, he was open and ready for that 105 mph on timer and they never got it to him. Only a few times, really. It was so confounding...Zegras or whoever would look at him and there really wasn't a passing lane. If he was able to get a few more passes, he might have had
2 more.
I think it will be perfect to get him with Wrobo on the Reign and work further on everything. He really has come pretty far since his draft day,
June 2019.
That and they played him on the left the entire tournament when hes a RW
