I don't mind it when it's a medal round type of thing. Get your medals, shake a hand or two, whatever.

But when you just lost on the semis? I could MAYBE understand doing the player of the game for the losing team, but then you need to let them go. Instead they make the poor guy stand up there with the winning team's player of the game, take pictures, then they do the other players of the game (?) from each team, it's this whole big spectacle. Let the kids go back to their locker room and turn their focus to their last game.

I'm all for learning sportsmanship but this is essentially a professional tournament despite the young ages, and this shit is just overkill.

A line of Laf-Hagens-Perreault would be fun to watch. Laf might even be the worst one on that line.

This wasn't his best game, but he has been good. He's only 1 point off the tournament lead.

Remember, he is 2 years younger than Gabe.

Perreault is pretty amazing. Going in on a 2 on 1 with Leonard he flubs the pass on the forehand only to turn immediately to his backhand and still make a tape to tape pass to a still streaking Leonard. He's a magician with the puck. He also shows up in big games. He did that last year in the medal round and he's doing it this year.

Fortescue was really really solid tonight too. Great defense and a very smart and strong physical game.

I really like Hagens in this tournament and when you compare him to other top draft prospects in the tournament he's clearly been the best though Schaefer went out early with injury. Martone was pretty much a non-factor for Canada. Eklund did pretty well for Sweden. Hensler was okay.

Perreault is a player who makes other players better. His game is predicated on using his teammates. He's not the kind that's going to try to be the hero. He's a chemistry player and I don't think he's going to have a big issue making the jump to the NHL or producing offense when he does. Since drafted his skating has gotten better and he's gotten stronger and he's in the mix all the time including bumping and getting bumped. He's all over the ice including in the combat areas and he knows how to get lost and reappear at an opportune moment. He also tracks back on defense pretty well. He's not a one trick pony. He puts effort into having a complete game.

People thinking he's going to blow up. I don't see it. I think sometimes it's easy to be always looking for worse case scenarios. This guys reminds me a lot of Marc Savard only he's a better skater and a better finisher. Also reminds me somewhat of Panarin. Another thing is he's instinctual...there is no hesitation in his game. Give him an opening for a shot or a pass he takes it and he almost always choose the best option.

Hagens is having a fine tournament. He’s been a good player at BC this year too and prospect fatigue is definitely becoming a thing with him. He isn’t Celebrini but some
of the takes on him (from the so called experts) have started to become borderline loony.

As far as the forwards go he’s at worst #2 at the moment. I get that the OHL guys are putting up huge numbers but that league is a different beast than the NCAA.

I think Hensler has been terrible.

Generally I think this tournament is not a great barometer for draft eligible but he’s been so bad that I can’t imagine he won't end up falling a bit.

If this were my first time getting a look at him he wouldn’t even be on my radar as a first round pick.

Remember when Nino Niederreiter played an entire season on the 4th line with Marty Reasoner and some other boomer holdover from pre-lockout NHL and he scored 1 point in 55 games for the Isles?

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that some of the guys that are constantly calling Rangers players (and future players evidently) 'soft, whiny, little bitches' constantly sound like soft, whiny, little bitches, when they post?!?!

Regarding the losers having to stay on the ice, I hear NHL scouts now officially call it the "Lias Andersson Test Part 1" ...Test Part 2 is when there are any camera cables on the ice.



As for Perreault: what else can you say. Him and his line had a bit of a tough couple middle games there where they were defending more than you'd like to see but he's still tied for the tourney lead in points. His speed and strength have taken a step this year as was expected as he grew into his body. I don't think the WJC itself is a good predictor of future NHL success at all (either way) but obviously it's good to see NYR prospects excel. Last time against Finland resulted in two posts on breakaways so he's looking to right that wrong in the gold medal game.

Oh, if you think about it, there really is nothing that could have gone better so far for him since he's been drafted. Like, there is not much more we could have asked for. Crazy so far.
