I’m just saying I don’t see him as ready, but… San Jose.

i'd really hope they realize just how miserable they're gonna be and not throw a kid who's already gonna be in way over his head through 82 games of getting the sht kicked out of him mentally and physically. unfortunately, i have a feeling they want to inject something "exciting" into their lineup, though he isn't ready to add that to their on ice product at all yet. also have gotten the impression he's got his eye on being in the nhl next year, so he may push as much as anyone to make the jump. could see that changing though depending on the way their season ends. if bc were to fall just short of a natty i could see all 3 returning, but almost any other scenario i'd have my money on smith and leonard leaving. leonard will be fine though. he's physically in a better spot, going to a better environment, and plays a game that will translate more directly.

I don't think that this is an inaccurate comment at all.

agree with this. i actually think perrault has a fair bit more physical ability than fox though, he's a much better skater technically than the narrative suggests, and he's got enough speed. as he adds strength it'll open more eyes. not sure where exactly his iq stacks up with fox, but even if he's not quite at that level, he's not that far off either. i will say this...he ability to use spacing / angles / pace to break teams down on the rush is downright freakish. the skill / vision he's shown completing those gets all the attention, and rightfully so, but what's really special is how he puts that killshot in motion long before he makes it.

I want what I want
Fox is an interesting cat because he loves to out wait his opponent and then once they make a move, he steals their soul. He slows the game down and his deceptive stickhandling to deke a player is beautiful. That's his hocky IQ. Gabe is different. He sees the ice really well and has great anticipation on where his linemates will/should be for scoring opportunities. He doesn't so much deke defenders out of their shoes as much as uses spatial awareness to get himself open and then in turn find the open man.

If anything, a nitpick is he sometimes gets rid of the puck too quickly and is too selfless. He'll fit right in with the Ranger players who like to overpass...to some fans' consternations.

Like Fox and Panarin Perreault's game revolves around his hockey IQ. As currently constructed though two of them on your main power play is good. I think three would be too much. That said it should make a second power play a lot more dangerous. Like Panarin he's a set up guy mostly from a wing position.

Perreault started kind of slow but as a freshman he's currently leading one of the top college programs in the country in scoring and he tied for second for the gold medal winning USA WJC team. His Boston College team is chock full of NHL draft picks.

The Rangers have a second PP unit?

Gabe will likely be a rookie during Panarin's final season with the Rangers. It will be a good transition when Panarin leaves to have Gabe take his spot on PP1.

He is so bad. Guy is never coming close to a contract.
He's not having a great year, but his numbers the last 2 years have been good. He'll probably go back for his senior year, so we'll see. After Garand, there isn't much in the pipeline. Neither Lindbom nor Boyko have been good in the ECHL. Both could be gone by the time Ollas goes pro. I think there's a good chance he gets a contract.

Great job corralling a bad pass before converting too.

Smiths passing is cheeks. So many of his attempts go way behind his intended target, in their feet, ahead of them, or to no one at all. Seems like he only hits 1 out of every 5 he attempts.

The ol Fulton reed approach.

Actually he was very good last year. Cant speak to how he has been this year though.
His stats have gotten worse every year unfortunately.

Agreed Smith is pretty underwhelming.

Don't worry, when the Rangers get their mitts on him, they'll bench and scratch the confidence and skill right out of him. None of that is allowed here. Hockey's different here.

Look at Bonino and Pitlick. That's what we want.
