I know most think that AA will get waived, but I don't think DL will throw away an asset-especially one size 6'1 210 lbs. AA may eventually get waived, but I think DL will try and trade AA or another player, before having to waive AA.

I'm not too fussed with AA until he shows a bit more, I wonder if DL grabs the shore brother off waivers, wasn't he halfway decent?

How does the waiver priority work now, are we picking about 13th?

Lines and pairings shown at this morning’s skate:

Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Mersch-Carter-Toffoli
King-Shore-Brown
Clifford-Lewis-Nolan
Pearson-Andreoff-Weal-O’Neill

Forbort-Doughty
McNabb-Martinez
Schultz-Ehrhoff
LoVerde-McBain

so.....any thoughts on what this means re: cuts?
are they gonna cut weal, andreoff, oneill and loverde/mcbain?

I don't think you can read too much into it other than the obvious.

They've gotten a good long look at Mersch in every game and now they want to see what he can do with top offensive players.

Probably want to get one last look at Shore in a possible role too. Remember he is waiver eligible, Weal is not, so unless Shore is head and shoulders over both Weal and Andreoff, he's the easy answer for a send down.

O'Neill wasn't terrible, but he didn't turn heads either.

I think the picture has established itself pretty well at this point but the wildcard is Mersch.

Will be cool to see Forbort in bigger minutes tonight with Doughty!

I think that Forbort has proven himself ready to play at the NHL level. Get him in one out of every two or three games while we get his feet wet and keep him around as our #7. I know that I am dreaming because there isn't any way in hell that DS would play a kid over a vet on D unless he had to which is fine but Forbort is ready none the less.

thanks for your thoughts brad

care to share what you think the picture will be? andreoff/weal stay up? shore/mersch go down? mcbain/loverde go down? what about greene and muzzin? they're in, yeah?

I agree. He's come a long way, and he's certainly at that point of getting the coffee treatment. By #7 though, they don't need to sit him in the press box and they shouldn't. Have him leap frog over the whoever press box dude from Ontario. He needs good minutes this year as well. And he doesn't have to clear.

Let Forbort ripen down there in Ontario and then give him a cup when the inevitable injuries happen. No reason to rush him.

I think Weal has already made it. In a perfect world they go with Weal & Shore as the 3rd & 4th line centers, but like some have said, Shore doesn't need to clear waivers and Andreoff does.

Has Andreoff been definitively good enough to make the roster?

I can understand the waiver argument re: Shore and AA to a point, but the goal is also to ice the best team possible. If a guy isn't able to earn a spot on the roster by the time his waiver eligibility is up, how much longer is he worth protecting?

is there somewhere we can find out points-wise who put up the most points out of weal, shore, mersch, oneill and andreoff in the pre-season?
i think weal, shore and mersch all have 2 goals each
o'neill and andreoff one goal each
but with assists i am not sure
also weal, andreoff and shore - how have their percentages been in the face-off circle i wonder?
i could see them keeping shore; the organization seems quite high on him.

Waivers is definitely going to rule the decision. Going into camp, I didn't know what to expect from the young guys. I think Mersch raised the most eyebrows out of any of the younger guys, but none of them really distanced themselves clearly from the others. Looking back, I really should have expected this as the system is so ingrained in these guys it's automatic. None of them are going to go against it to try something that would make them stand out. It's like a cult in that way. :)

I was hoping to see one of the younger guys stand out, like a "damn, he went out and grabbed that spot", but it was probably silly to think so.

first game doesn't seem to have a full recap at nhl.com. just a written summary with goals. so this is as far as i can tell:

weal has 2 goals and 1 assist (think he had assist on 1 of toffoli's goals in game 1 too) = 4 pts in 4 games

shore has 2 goals and 2 assists = 4 pts in 5 games

mersch has 2 goals = 2 pts in 6 games

oneill 1 goal and 1 assist = 2 pts in 3 games

andreoff has 2 assists = 2 pts in 5 games

Coming in the the past few season I have really hoped to see a step up from Cliff.

I missed the beginning of his carrier here, but have often heard others say that we have kind of always been waiting for that step. I was starting to doubt... but the past few season it has been clear, at least to me, that Cliff wants to be more finesse, to be more well rounded then just an enforcer/energy guy. The past few seasons I think if you have been watching you have seen him TRY to make more moves... but maybe the skill wasn't quite there.

I'm thinking this long offseason has been better to him then anyone else, and has given him time to work more on what he can do with the puck.

Very impressed with what he has done this preseason... Hell since he re-upped his contract (don't know that that is related... just a good reference when I really started to notice him putting in more). Really hope for a big season for him.

Clifford always has really good starts and preseasons. I think a few years ago he was near the top of scoring for the team for the first couple weeks. He always seems to taper off around game 20 for some reason.

It's not conditioning, the guy is in great shape. It would be great if it's a confidence thing, because he's looking solid out on the ice. He's been here for quite a while now and probably feels like a vet, which could do wonders.

I'm hoping for 20+ from him, I think this is the year he will finally do it.

I hope you're right, but I highly doubt it. Better chance of Kopi scoring 50 goals than Clifford scoring 20+. I do think that our 4th line will be a lot more productive than it had been in the past.

Goals? I meant points. :) I would be overjoyed if he got 10 goals.

Clifford has always shown flashes. It's just the inconsistency of being a bottom-sixer. But I agree he does look more offensively polished. The grind of a season wears on people though. But remember even in the 2011 playoffs he was practically our offensive MVP, so he's got the ability, just not the offensive consistency.

Nice to see him really fix himself on the bottom six though, I always said Trevor Lewis would be our Kris Draper, awesome if Clifford can be McCarty
