Not quite sure what you mean by that. With the NHLers coming in, the players who played on the top lines versus Switzerland will be pushed down to depth roles.

Im saying they are not playing as a team, "nhlers" wont fix that...

Who cares what they looked like? I'm not getting defensive because they were indeed terrible, but so was the roster. It's just a crapola of young players plus a couple of keepers. Before Switzerland they managed to win four straight exhibition games however.

Anyway, It's not the team that will play in the World Champs so it's not worth putting any further thoughts into. I think that's what Systemfel was getting to.

Only the half of the swiss roster will play at the WC . Streit,Sbisa and 10 players of the playoffs finals ZSC Lions and SCBern will join the team .

It's obviously not to say Switzerland won't get better too. But this is the Swedish Roster discussion, hence looking at it from a Swedish standpoint. :)

Yes, exciting times in this thread. Holmström got a shot at triple gold club if he gets on-board - sure he would value that, doing one last push on the skates (if he retires).

What is the status of the others? If Lidström retires too, then I would go to the tournament if I was in his clothes. I mean it would be the last time his is conditioned for elite hockey. Wouldn't it be natural to play the few couple of games in that shape, he has after all expected a longer play-off than this.

Zetterberg, Kronwall, Franzén would all be most welcome of course. Ericsson would take a spot from any of the current D-men, but we'll see.

Really hoping to see Gustav Nyquist!

The only "new" swedish player in NHL (beside Landeskog) I believe have a chance at the WC team is Hagelin. Maybe a goalie as well.

Another question is if Mårts is interrested in Samuelsson. National team hockey, as you all know, is a passion for the guy. Injuries might make him unavailable, though. Other 50-50 players might be Stålberg, Ericsson J etc, see below

Schweizerostlags "not even strong taste"-WC guys:
Lundqvist
Pettersson

Kronwall

Enroth
Fasth

BIG question marks:
Danielsson
Persson

The 50-50 bunch:
Strålman
Hagelin
Lehner
Johansson
Markström
Samuelsson
Edler
Steen (because of late injury history)
Oduya
Krüger
Stålberg
Ericsson

Is it good to lose to the Swiss twice in the same week? No.

Is going to matter when the WC starts? Not for Sweden, maybe for the Swiss.

OPEN LETTER TO THE SWEDES IN DETROIT RED WINGS!:

First, Lidström! Magnificent career! Do as you want with WC. I support you no matter what. You earned it.

Zetterberg, Franzén, Kronwall and maybe Ericsson:
I hope your disappointment will disappear with time. This team will be great and I believe it will be a lot of fun being on it. Our team right now is no indication of what will be. The goaltending is great and imagine if Lundqvist joins later. Our defense might be top notch with Karlsson as offensive motor and Hedmanas a defensive leader. Forwards will work hard for the team. At least one forward line will be the best we can mobilize.

PS. I know Selänne and Koivu has declined and that this fact might be in your mind. Please, don't let this guide you. And skip the rule that WC only is for younger guys as the canadians believe.

DO THIS: (målbilder...)
Tattoo a mad Sundin (Hartwall Arena) on your forehead, imagine the super team we might have that will show the canadians what home ice means and what it will mean for the rest of the SEL guys if you show up! Imagine Globen and being a winner there as you might return there with your NHL team in the future. Join Sedin, Loui, Hedman, Enroth and all the other NHL:ers that will be on the team! We only have home ice a few times in your career. It will be DAMN fun and a real boost for swedish hockey and set the tone for the Boustedt-generation (born 88-93) of swedish top players. You might even plan a trip to the soccer-EM in Poland as part of the whole shabang. Also, imagine Sergels Torg full of fans as you return. OK, the hockey against the finns in the final will be real boring (think 0-0) but the feeling of beating the finns IN Finland will be a fine revenge for the OG-departure.

Finally...please join!.

Here's what I'd do:
Invite Lidstrom, Kronwall, Zetterberg and Franzen right away. No-brainers.
Invite Nyquist for a try-out in the Czech Hockey Games.
Wait out the rest of the 1st round before inviting Ericsson. There's other D's like Karlsson, Hjalmarsson, Ekman-Larsson, Edler, Stralman, Oduya to name a couple. Just wait and see what you got first.

This guy me no like:

http://bloggar.expressen.se/nhlpro/

As far as I'm concerned he has stepped out of his role as a journalist into the clothes of a national traitor. Selling newspapers by speculating about who will NOT want to play WC without any facts.

Another thing that makes me NUTS is the SWEHOCKEY homepage: To find national team stats you have to look under "Serier" which is ok and then under "GAMES ONLINE"????

That's the plan, I believe. One reason why the current national team sucks is that so many players know they will be replaced.

But let the "no-brainers" join when they feel like :)

The best comment I read in a while! Norway will taste the whip as well.

Yeah, only five days to next tournament so that won't happen. I guess they will clean out their lockers Monday or Tuesday. But youngster Nyquist could surely make an effort to be there if they want him.

Where is Jimmie Ericsson, Oscar Möller, Joakim Lindström, Robert Nilsson and Simon Bertilsson?
