I'm surprised the ball hasn't started rolling yet. Figured the floodgates would open wide once the Finals were over.
Daley reportedly told all GM's to keep everything quite until the roster reveal. In regards to other deals not involving Vegas, I would probably hedge my bet that Friday and Sat morning will be quite busy prior to the freeze.

Assuming Buffalo isnt sold on Lehner and Botterill cant get his hands on Fleury, which you would have to assume he would try to do since he's familiar with the guy, what would thoughts be on going after Lehtonen in Dallas. After signing Bishop he serves no purpose on their roster and is eating up a lot of their cap space. He has 1yr left at 5.9 mil cap hit and 5 mil in salary. Is there a possible deal here that we could benefit from by providing them cap relief? Lehtonen + DAL 29th for BUF 37th?

My philosophy is no more than $6M cap in goal, total, given the current team cap level, so I say no.

Let-one-in is an expensive option for below-average goaltending. Taking the above at face value, the only pro for BUF is moving up 8 draft slots. Even if it's sweetened further - say the BUF pick to DAL is a 3rd RD or lower, or DAL throws in another lower-round pick, BUF is not really benefitting. Examples where Lehtonen is not helping BUF this season:

-BUF could obtain an equally good or better UFA goalie, if they wanted/needed to (e.g., Ullmark taken in ExpDraft, or BUF wants Ullmark in the AHL to start next season)
-BUF could obtain a cheaper UFA goalie (therefore better value goalie).
-Sabres cap less flexible in event of injuries.
-Sabres cap less flexible for TDL additions.

If I was absolutely forced - somehow, some way - to spend high on a goaltender, I'd consider Fleury at $5 for his 2 years (and move him at TDL this season if Sabres are out of playoffs) before I'd deal for Lehtonen at $5.9M for his last year. I see no rational scenario, however, where BUF will be forced to spend more than $6M total for its two NHL goaltenders, so the Fleury scenario is smoke, too, IMO.

The NHL is trying so hard to hype up this reveal that they're actually hurting the most fun part of the process.

There could be upwards of a dozen trades happening with regards to the expansion draft and the NHL wants to release the floodgates all at once.

Instead of having a two week period of frantic trading, engaging in NHL related content (websites, message boards, social media etc) we get the dull-boring waiting period until the expansion. It's so lame. Every opportunity the NHL has to get people talking about their league they ****ing ruin it. The sport grows when people are engaged and between this, the olympics, disregard to star players and outdated and boring rules his league just ****s it up all the time.

Sorry for the rant it wasn't directed at you. This league makes me so mad at the illogical things they do.

Very frustrating indeed how the league handles themselves. It's like they stab themselves in the eyes and then wonder why they can't see...

look at our goalie depth. I literally laughed looking as Kasdorf's stat line. Why is this guy even playing hockey? let alone being paid

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=125232

Somehow he was Winnipeg's sweetener in the trade  :sarcasm:

I remember his NHL debut game.

He played behind crap teams / defenses last season. He's BUF property for 1 more year. We'll see what he can do. It's really a non-issue how well or poorly he plays, or what his role/value was in the Myers/Kane/Bogo/spare parts trade.

He's like re-using tissue paper in a shirt-box present. Doesn't need to be perfectly crease/crinkle/tear free, it's just nice that it's there.

Definitely irritating, but stuff will leak out...it always does. We'll all have a pretty firm handle on what's going on once the protection lists are released.

Putting Gorges and Girardi together would be an interesting exercise in seeing who ranks worse in terms of the Brad Brown skating measurement.

I would take Girardi on a 1 year/1 million dollar deal. Best case scenario, he rebounds and can at least play bottom pairing, give us 14-15 minutes a night whilst blocking a lot of shots and helping our horrendous PK. And worst case scenario he is still the same ol' Girardi and is still complete trash we can simply send him to Rochester and at 1 million virtually all of his cap hit would be able to be buried. And not only that but even though Girardi has been a very bad dman he would definitely be a great AHL dman and could help the Americans immensely.

What do you guys think about Marko Dano? Apparently Winnipeg is exposing him in expansion so he might be available for cheap. If we trade Kane for defense and open up a protection spot he might be a decent project.

I like the idea of getting Dano depending on the cost. He had a great rookie campaign back in 14-15, he definitely looked like a future 50-60 point top 6 winger. I also don't think we have "too many" wingers, not at al. If Kane is dealt and Reinhart is moved to center we could use another top 9 winger. Especially because I think one of Baptiste and Bailey will start in Rochester.

We only have too many wingers if you're gifting multiple spots to 2nd year players who might still qualify as rookies. Botts won't want that. Competition is his thing.

Well hey now! Chris Neil is available lol. Our pain in the ass for the last 13 years or whatever. Maybe he wants to be Rob Ray in reverse and come here for one year.

I'm kidding.

I would love Shattenkirk but we need a left handed defenseman more than a right handed and I doubt Shatty comes here to play on the 2nd line behind Risto. And we already have Antipin there so yeah there goes that. We still need two more defenseman with one likely coming in a deal built around Evander Kane. I still would hate to see Kane go but we desperately need a defenseman and Nylander will replace his production by the end of next season and in the mean time we will have guys like Baptiste and Bailey who can fill the void until Nylander is ready.

From what I can gather people don't like Lehner much and would like to see him traded...but also don't care if Ullmark goes in expansion...even though Petersen is bolting too.

****...if they get their way and we just have no goalies Tocchet is going to have an easy time figuring out who to bet on.
