Pretty sure a GM holding "future considerations" is pretty similar to a car dealership having a "clearance event". Sure, there might be some minor incentive, but its mostly ******** to get other GMs on the phone.

Kane to LA for 11 OA.

8 and 11 OA (or hopefully just 8OA and a 2nd) to Vegas for expansion draft D target.

Re: Kane to LA.

I think we probably need to step back and consider LA's situation.

They won two cups and spent a TON of assets to try to try to get back (see Lucic and Sekera deals).

Now, they've got Kopitar, Carter, and Doughty in their primes, with anchor contracts in Gaborik and Brown.

They are going to want to shed bad contracts, while improving their team.

What if the deal is something like:

Kane for Brown (high retention %, say, 40-50%)+ Muzzin.

Buffalo gets "leadership" and a bottom 6 RWer (which, we need) and gets a top 4 d-man reasonably signed.

LA add's goal scoring to their top 6 and free's up salary.

I doubt LA has the cap space to take on Kane's contract without a contract going the other way.

I'd love to see that deal, but I am expecting a Kane deal to involve a contract coming back.

Seems shocking to me that LA would entertain giving up several years of Muzzin for one year of Kane. But, if they're willing to go down that road...

Kane + 2nd for Muzzin?
Kane + 8 for Muzzin and 11?
Kane + Bailey/Baptise/Fasching for Muzzin?
Kane + Nylander for Muzzin and ???

Brown at 5 years and $3M per against the cap is OK and going that route to get Muzzin for Kane wouldn't upset me.

It is going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

With high retention taking on Brown to fill the Gionta role wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, especially if he's bringing Muzzin along with him. I like it.

1 year of Kane isn't worth a 11th overall. Not even close.

It'll likely be Martinez + a small add for Kane.

11 OA for the second leading scorer in the league from December on, for a team that scored less than 200 goals, and that has what's left of their window closing... in a draft that they might consider "weak".

The Sabres simply cannot add another contract like Brown at 50% without first dumping Ennis or Mouslon. Simply not worth the cap restriction for that term.

Think about how much people ***** about Ennis and Moulson now. Brown for 5 years of that(even at 50% it'd create those posts) is just adding fuel to the fire. We need better cap management, not worse. Since Botteril is supposedly really cap smart, I highly doubt he'd take on dead weight with our current situation.

Brown isn't dead weight though, he's just overpaid. At $3M he's worth it. That may be debatable a couple years down the line as he gets older, but for the short term it wouldn't be an issue.

It's never that black and white. Go ask any Kings fan; they'll laugh in your face at that proposal.

11th overall for a player that has a net negative presence, despite all the goals

I understand the reasoning behind the speculation, but listening tin botterill I think they believe they have bigger fish to fry (i.e. They need at least 2 more roster defensemen).

As for Kane, please. I like the guys effort on the ice, but he's kind of like a chicken with his head cut off "puck!!! I got it! Go go go!!! Net! Shoot!!! Oh man that went wide... how the hell did the other team get the puck so quick..."

If you can address the defense using Kane, then you do it, which makes sense for speculation.

We could always retain half of Kanes salary to sweeten the deal.

Anybody listen to what Bobby Mac had to say today on Kane/Lehner?

I guess @davedavishockey tweeted the link. I'm in an area with horrible reception and it wont play.

Can you rehash what he said?

edit: Bobby Mac thinks Kanes getting traded and isn't sure if Botts is sold on Lehner.
