Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Pathetic situation we are in, G.M. put waaaaay too much faith into an aging roster...
An excuse to continue the same old frustrating ways?
Yes.
I'm in the camp for trying to win.
If that means in 2 or 3 years, then Yes I will be Patient.
But the course we have been on for the last 3 years, I can not longer do,
Sorry Count me out....

Jesus fvck you people. Hire some analytical twit? Like Dubas? Dubas fvcking sucks! Why tf would anyone want to hire someone like him? Hell you can probably just hire him directly, he sucks in Pitt as well and will likely be out of a job there soon enough. Holy fvck were you all dropped on your heads when you were kids or something?

Hire Roy for GM? Look at Trotz for exhibit A. Did the same things y’all skewer Lou for doing. No thanks. Not fer nuthin, Roy kinda sucks as a coach. “The fact that he kept the team in a playoff race after selling at the deadline”? It’s because the bottom 9 in the eastern conference FVCKING SUCK!!! not because of Roy and any sort of mad genius.

Give me a fvcking break.
Ok grandpa, that’s nice, time for bed.

Agreed because we sure as shit aren’t winning with this roster today. Keeping 21 was so stupid

Re: Duclair, I give him a pass for this season. He’s been battling a groin injury and for a player’s game predicated on speed, that’s a challenging situation.

With that said, next year he has much to prove (given he’s healthy). I never expected him to be a world beater—he can float at times and isn’t uber talented. He can definitely be better than what we’ve seen.

Interestingly, Trevor Connolly who was picked 1 spot ahead of Eiserman has decided to turn pro after his freshman season. He had nowhere near the numbers Eiserman had. If I was advising him I’d tell him to stay at least another year.

Obviously I don’t know what his personal situation at home is but I think it’s interesting he decided to turn pro. I would be surprised if Eiserman did the same but I think he should go back to school for another year.
Eiserman had an awesome freshman season and he really matured under pandolfo. Another thing to think about is Eiserman is also one of the youngest players in his draft and in college this year. He won’t be 19 until the end of August. I don’t want him anywhere near Bridgeport with the state of that team right now.

Going to be interesting to see what Cole decides to do.

Fact is, and I'm sure anyone who has been watching the recent playoff games will agree, Eiserman is still getting thrown around out there too much. This is the college level. Yes, some opponents are 24 or 25 years old.

But Eiserman has gotten crushed or tossed around on a number of occasions in these playoffs.

Like you wrote, he is EXTREMELY young and his body simply isn't at the maturity level it needs to be in order to survive AHL hockey. That's totally understandable.

He not only needs a sophomore season - he'd prolly be best served with a junior season as well. In most respects, he lives off of opportunism at the college level. There are other game layers that should be added there before he goes pro, shiny freshman numbers or not.

There's no rush - and we really don't want this prospect being mishandled in his development.

Really wish we had the type of prospects on the brink that could be difference makers, but not sure if that's the case.

It absolutely isn't. Ritchie is now the closest thing to that.

Aside from him, the guys with the most games are Dobson and Wahlstrom, one who is gone and the other who's inconsistent.

Dobson and Holmstrom are the two Lou-time picks that have become useful NHL regulars.

Raty is actually the only other one to be playing NHL hockey right now.

Even if you want to be fair and say we should only really evaluate Lou's first four drafts here, that's all we've got from them.

I don't follow other teams prospects as closely, but it seems we have had way more misses than hits in the drafts over the past 15ish to 20 years. Even the players who've played alot of games aren't any superstars.

You don't say.

It's naturally wonderful that Snow somehow managed to turn Reinhart into Barzal and Beauvillier. Might have been his singlemost wonderful move as a GM.

But the opportunity to create a long-term, competitive team was ended by what came of the drafts between 2010-2014.

None of Niederreiter, Strome, Reinhart, or Dal Colle turned into star players for this team, but that's what Snow absolutely needed to get from those high ranking draft spots.

We've often wondered what things could have been like if, after strong drafts in 2008 and 2009, Snow had added say Skinner, Scheifele, Rielly, and Nylander instead of Niederreiter, Strome, Reinhart, and Dal Colle.

Indeed, a heavy case of hindsight here, but these are all guys who went within 3 picks of who Snow actually selected.

I'm sure our scouting team has changed over this time, but maybe it's time to refresh that department again.

Here's the business directory. I see a lot of unknown names here - or names we very well know, but didn't realize they're scouting for us (like Vladimir Malakhov, who is listed as a European pro/College free agency scout).

Clear is, both Klatt and Kautonen still have chief positions on the staff. And they were around for all those Snow years, if I remember correctly.

I would argue Eiserman would be our best chance to be a difference maker. Now Ritchie probably is a safer prospect to be something int he NHL(or more a case even if he doesn't reach his high end potential he still will be a useful player whereas if Eiserman isn't scoring at least 25 goals he becomes useless)

There's a reason he's on his 9th NHL team.

Yep, Eiserman is our best prospect when it comes to his long-term potential at being a difference maker.

The poster I responded to mentioned "Really wish we had the type of prospects on the brink that could be difference makers".

Thus, Ritchie is the only one I can see possibly stepping in already next season and starting to make a difference.

A lot would have to go right for him in order for that to be the case.

They should've traded him. I legitimately believe that ANY proactive general manager would've done better than that idiot Lou. You literally win nothing by keeping Palmieri

Gut feeling...
More than 2/3s of the GMs out there (a conservative estimate) would have moved Palmieri under the same circumstances.

It would have been the realistic business first approach.

Now he either just walks away or re-signs as a player this team doesn't actually need going forward.

On the plus side, the players' guild kind of takes these things to heart knowing Lou will be letting business decisions get clouded by his interpersonal treatment of and relationship to players and the desire to retain people who he likes working with, sporting and asset ramifications be damned.

Of course, I dunno how that ends up paying off for the benefit of the team... It's not like it leads to him luring in UFAs of note who could have signed with a dozen other teams.

You skimmed a bunch of posts that mentioned Dubas by name. If you actually read them, I don't think anyone advocated for hiring someone like Dubas as GM because that would be too much of an over correction from old-salty-ass, grind-it-out Lou.

Jesus, sometimes just mentioning some of the most contentious names in Islanders land causes so much agita.

Dubas
Tavares
Tom Wilson
Snow
Dale Hunter
The New York Rangers
Kate Murray
Ho-Sang

Who else is on the Official HFIsles Shit List? - maybe I'll start a thread

should they keep Lou Lamoriello, just how empty is UBS arena going to be? With the news of no possible ASG too in 2026, and the Islanders looking very bleak in terms of prospects and overall staying power, there really has to be something done. Cal Ritchie isn't gonna fix everything. They badly need to call up more youth. The bottom 6 is in critical need of repairs.

There’s a mix of giving duclair the benefit of the doubt given how he looked pre groin (five games plus preseason) and what we’ve seen since.

But like most middle six guys that don’t have consistent scoring, you need to find a way to contribute when you aren’t scoring and he doesn’t do that.
