Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Can we talk potential playoffs?

Big game tonight and W would put them 1 point out and with games in hand with teams behind them.

They play Columbus (twice) and the Rangers one more time in absolute must Wins.

Just a pure guess Barzal may be 2 weeks away from skating.

15 games left - 90 points might be enough to secure that 8th spot

The next 4 games @ home
V. Montreal
V. Calgary
V. Columbus
V. Vancouver
Need both American games and one of the Canadian ones

If we make the playoffs, this will be without a doubt the strangest season I’ve ever witnessed.

Team was historically bad in the beginning of the year. Couldn’t do anything right and looked like a circus on skates. Not to mention missing the entire right side of the defense for a prolonged time and then missing the entire left side at another time. Trading away most consistent scorer and losing most talented offensive player to injury.

The fact that we’re so close to a WC spot is bonkers.

This playoff race has snuck up.

I think it also has much to do with the mediocre teams littering the conference. The Devils look pretty ordinary as well, especially with their injuries.

It also speaks to the character in the room and the positivity from Roy and Lou - they continue to make this team believe. At this point, any of these flawed teams can make it in. And then you know, anything can happen ;)

Question for you older Isles fans...

Are you happy the team made the playoffs in 1994...Or if you could change it would you have them miss them if it meant not having to watch and have that series as a part of history?

That 1994 team was the flip side of when people here say the current team stinks and is being saved by Sorokin. That team was totally done in by Ron Hextall and his inability to stop a beach ball that series. Not saying they would have necessarily won, but they were a doormat that ultiimately helped the NYR win a Cup by giving them such an easy series.

They were evenly matched during the regular season. In 5 games they were 2-1-2 over the NYR and GF/GA was 22/20. Like you said, Hexstall couldn't stop a beachball and the 93' magic was gone.

I was happy they made the playoffs. The results not so much.

Looking at the draft even if the isles didn’t make the playoffs I don’t think the better draft pick would have helped. Don Maloney moved up to pick the better Lindros but delt away the consistent Uwe Krupp. Nothing worked out like we hoped that year or the next seven.

Of course I was. I've seen all the playoff series too, like Lek. What's the point? Being a fan for this long, through the bad years, is part of being a sports fan. Makes the good times that much better.

I was.

Especially, coming off the magic of '93.
The Rangers were destined that year. I was at game 4 at the Coliseum same seats I had for game 6 against the Pens in 1993. I remember leaving that game and turning to my buddy and I said Rangers are winning the cup.

Only scenario to root against right now is finishing 9th in the conference.

That series was a particularly hard pill to swallow as I was refereeing Baymen soccer on the weekends. A buddy I worked with was a Rags fan and we would go home in between breaks and watch some of the games. Driving back with him was unbearable :-(

It's really a matter of who is the least terrible in the East.

Can't use this team as a role model by any means. Can't use them to teach against procrastination, preparedness, attention to detail. This team is the kid that skips class and smokes in the bathroom and still might get a 1400 on their SATs and go to an Ivy League school.....but nobody knows.

sounds like Isles are signing a college free agent kid - Gleb Veremyev. Never heard of him, but always good to get more talent into the pipeline

I was - thought maybe we'd see a repeat of the 93 run. The results of the series were terrible, but so was the series of moves it set in motion. Maybe that's the lesson to take from 94?

That’s the reason I despise Ron hextall to this day. That fvcker let in like a 180 foot dribbler in that series. If I ever meet him I’ll kick him square in the balls. Fvck that guy. Assclown.
