Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Cannot believe we’re really going to screw this up. Finally the cards line up for us to re-tool quickly (pieces to trade, sellers market), and we still find a way to fumble it. I do not think Lou is an idiot, on the contrary I believe he’s incredible smart. So this must mean that he has the biggest ego and is the most stubborn person on the planet. There’s no other explanation for not selling off assets.

On the one hand, I appreciate the info so thanks for posting that. On the other hand, not that I believe his numbers have a connection with what will actually happen, but Rosner needs to be more specific about what exactly the 50/50 refers to. I see 3 possibilities for tomorrow:

Nelson is traded.
Nelson stays and re-signs.
Nelson stays tomorrow but then leaves.

So is it 50/50 that he's on the roster next October? 50/50 that he gets traded tomorrow? Something else? What is his disconnected, entirely speculative opinion referring to?!?! :scared: :scared:

I think he's just talking about if he's not signed he'll be traded.

That Rosner guy is sure giving his 110%.

I see he’s going out on a limb. I guess when the TDL expires Brock will either be here or not.

Solid stuff.

- Were messers Nelson, Palmieri, and Pageau on the flight to San Jose yesterday?
- Tavares leaving this franchise for absolutely nothing - in a year where the team was nowhere near the playoffs no less - was something that shell-shocked a large potion of this fanbase in a manner like nothing before, which says a lot in light of the circus this franchise has put its fans through over decades. There had been so much patience and faith placed into Tavares and his slow but convincing ascent into stardom. That event was a sledgehammer into the cranium of this fanbase. And Lou witnessed it first hand as the maker of the final pitches to prevent it from happening.
- Are any of Barzal, Varlamov, or even Högberg even expected to return this season?

If he sits on this team that has almost no chance of winning a cup for this season and next it is purely for selfish reasons and he knows it's his last hurrah and he will take the extremely small chance this team will make a run over a re-tool that he knows will take several years that he probably won't be around for, Lou is a guy who is known to not be interested in selling so why would he start now?

Good question. If Nelson is traded, especially if it's mostly for futures, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an announcement after the TDL passes that Barzal (and maybe Varly) are done for the season.

Not sure there's a single person who gets paid by the Islanders who would share this information with anyone - Much less Rosner.

That said....How come it isn't obvious with Malkin/Ledecky to NOT "have another Tavares situation?" When Tavares didn't resign on July 1st, 2017 he should've been traded before the start of that season.

if Nslson/Palmieri hasn't signed by now then you have to expect they won't.

Looking back the Avs handing the Rantonen situation the way they needed to. They we're going to let things go until the last moment because they have a proactive GM who sees the big picture. Now the Canes are behind the 8-ball as are the Isles.

Could Nelson/Palmieri be traded by tomorrow? Of course, but since trading them is so imperiative for the future success of this sinking franchise, you cannot take risks like this.

Of course the reason this is all happening is because Lou REFUSES to let players walk and will only trade them if his back is truly ironed to the wall and/or Malkin forces him to. He is probably in utter shock that his own players don't want to accept his "too much and too long" contract offers he hands out like a new restaurant does free samples.

Malkin should tell Lou, "Either Nelson/Palmieri go..Or you have to. You both cannot be with the Islanders" If that ever happens think Lou would still try to resign them. He has an addition. .

What a joke this all is. Total GM malpractice and it never should've reached this point. I don't care if Lou trades everyone and gets good return - He needs to go ASAP.

The X factor is ownership. Only Lou and the owners know the conversations they’ve had. For all we know Lou and ownership are in complete agreement in what he’s been doing and going to do in roster construction.

Maybe I misunderstand, but are you saying that even if Lou DOES trade Nelson and Palms tomorrow, it was a mistake because he should've traded them before the season? :skeptic:

The last thing I want is a meddling owner that tells the GM how to run the team. The owner should have full confidence in the GM and allow the GM total control, or the owner should fire the GM. Nothing in between.

The thing is Lou knows he's probably gone either way, I can't imagine at 82 he wants to hang around for another few years especially in a re-tool, that is why in his head he wants to give this another few more years and hope the Islanders will have some miracle and win a cup which any rational person knows is not going to happen

I don’t think the deadline is the time to do it, but this team needs serious reconfiguring, not just dealing around the margins. Core is stale and frankly just not good enough. The lack of skill and creativity is glaring, especially on the pp, OT, and shootout,
