Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

There is something seriously wrong with Lou if he is just going to sit on this team, are the owners aware how damaging he is to the future of this team? By Lou doing nothing and not being heavy sellers he is going to ensure the Islanders are going to suck for the next decade, do the owners get this and realize that equals horrible ticket sales?
How committed is ownership to winning? Really winning?
Would appear it’s really not a mandate, just be competitive seems to be what they desire.

Mayfield? His icetime would tell you Roy is not a fan, unless he's easing him back in due to the injury?
Maybe it makes Roy nauseous to watch a guy handle the puck like a hand grenade?
Cause it sure makes me, especially when I think how many more years I have to watch Mr Ice the Puck

Could wind up similar to the Vanek return, depending on the interest. Market for sellers seems to be strong, but Teams know he’s not resigning in Carolina. Interested parties may wait it out until the summer to take a shot.
the Vanek cluster### was almost uniquely terrible asset management in NHL trading history; while the Canes seem to be in a similar position, I'll be they'll get more than the pittance Snow got for Vanek

One has to wonder if Lou is taking orders from the owners and that is no to a rebuild or retool, they want to keep pumping this mediocrity if it means ticket sales will remain fine rather than making the necessary steps to try and win a cup and potentially having a few years of weaker attendance

In all seriousness, letting Nelson and Palmieri walk for nothing would be the worst thing to happen to the franchise since Tavares left... I think you could argue it would be worse in this market.

Nelson's value seems to be around two firsts + and Palmieri could potentially get another first. That's got to at the very least rival the expected return for Tavares as a rental. Except this time it would be OUR CHOICE.

If Lou goes that route (and ESPECIALLY if we don't win the cup afterward), he should be treated with the same level of hate that has previously been reserved by our fans solely for JT.

Lou better not f*** this up. Rags just got Brisson and a 3rd for smith lol

Brisson hasn’t lived up to his potential but he’s still young enough and talented enough that you take that chance.

I’ve defended Lou but if he does nothing with the current state of the franchise, Brock being the #1 target, Palmieri being another top target, and the sellers market. It’s a great injustice to the franchise.

Idk what’s worse, losing Brock and Palms for nothing or Lou keeping teams in the dark so long that they go elsewhere and he only gets a 5th round pick for them lol

They're not, they are definitely going to sell the team after finishing the real estate play.
As said, if this is the motivating factor, f them hard, it is inconceivable this team is not re-tooling, so it is either on Lou who is not interested in a re-tool at this stage in his life, or the owners who have their own financial motivation and them looking to sell soon and not having to deal with a few years of a re-tool is as good as any

I've been a longtime fan going through a host of less reputable owners who generally
kept a team close to a bottom feeder with low salary, less than experienced GM's amongst a whole bunch of other garbage. Finally, we see new owners that would spend to make us competitive, only to see them put their faith in a past his prime GM still using the Bic single blade to make sure his players are clean shaven.

Doing nothing at this deadline would be a disaster !
This is the time to balance his portfolio (Roster) so we can compete going forward.

If nothing, or next to nothing, happens tomorrow, methinks the target of vitriol around here may begin to shift from the old man to the rich man.

If ownership desired even a 2/3 full arena, running back the same cast of characters is just foolish. People have started not caring about this boring, stale team already. Sell off some parts, get younger, at least sell hope.

Is it possible that the owners know that Lou is gone at the end of the season and has been instructed not to make any moves wanting a new GM to make the moves starting at the draft and then FA?

I think it's a little premature to get upset before the deadline is over. All of this talk about not trading Nelson/Palms/etc., can easily just be posturing to get other teams to increase their offers. Who knows? If the deadline passes, and nothing happens, then I agree we should take out the pitchforks.

Seems unlikely. Ownership would more likely request that any major trade be approved by them instead to prevent exactly what you're describing from negatively impacting the team.
