I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling -----we've seen this movie and I know that Lou has never been much of a buyer and now that many of us want him to be seller it probably does not happen,,,,,"cellar" at years end is more likely but seller ? I will be surprised as the team needed to be blown up years ago so why would the old man do it now when he is on borrowed time / he aint getting any younger

Wonder if it’s Nelson’s ask or lou holding up an extension.

I would prefer Nelson back bc I think he will still be productive, but if he’s planning on testing the market Lou needs to move him.

This, Lou doesn't give a shit about the future of this team after he is done which is probably next year at tops, other GMs are rebuilding for their own future hoping they will see the fruits of their moves which might take 5, 6 years down the road, why would he care about that? It's very rare GMs get credit for the moves they make after they are gone and they sure don't get a Stanley Cup ring, why it was important the owners brought in a new GM before we got to this point

Productive for what? This team has hit a dead end, we need a re-build or at least a re-tool, what is the point in giving Nelson a 3 year deal when he is probably only going to decline especially if we can get something good for him, the only option is to try and trade everyone on this roster who is over 30

The only- and I stress only- argument I could see is that you may want a few veteran/culture/"Islander Way" guys who were part of the ECF runs to help shepherd the rebuild/retool so it's not just a bunch of teenagers- and nobodies trying to turn the franchise around (see late 90s NYI).

That said, Lee, Barzal, and a large portion of the veteran D will all still be here from those teams. Therefore, we must take advantage of the fact that we have the Homecoming Queen (Nelson) for this year's deadline. Must...

This means there is no chance Lou is even bothering taking offers on Pageau, Lee and anyone else over 30 who might get us some hope for the future and will only decide to "maybe" flip Palmieri/Nelson if it looks like there is no chance of them re-signing and whatever last minute garbage we are able to scrounge up with if we decide to trade them at 2:45 on Friday

This guy isn't credible

Went away for a few days and didn't miss much, except for the "action" in this thread.

Like everyone else here, I have no idea what's going to happen. Except, as I've been saying I'll be surprised if Nelson/Palms get traded for picks - not saying that would be a bad thing, just surprised. If so though, maybe those picks get traded for younger players at the draft. As others have said, treat it as a step-back season and hope to be better next year - probably the best approach to take in the "new NHL", but not sure Lou is creative enough to make that happen. Or maybe Lou trades Nelson and Palms to NJ and then re-signs them over the summer.

If they do keep and extend Nelson and Palms, I hope it's for reasonable terms and they trade other assets to gather futures. JGP. Maybe TDA. Mayfield (parents met at college in COL, he grew up a Broncos fan, played hockey at UDenver, and COL could use a RHD - just sayin' he'd waive his NMC in a split second to go there).
