On the one hand, I feel like Tsyplakov's numbers could improve based on the eye test.

On the other hand, he's put up so-so numbers having had some decent time on the 2nd line, and he's making $950k this year. If he has similar production and is making $3M, perceptions of "how he's doing" could change.

He’s amazingly a +9. 35-45 point guy for around .2.75-.3.5 is digestible for him, he plays a solid overall game away from the puck too.

On the Russian front, wonder if Lou bargain shops for Kuzmenko to try to find some cheap scoring either via trade with PHI or as a UFA this summer.

Kuzmenko and Sorokin were teammates for a number of years, FWIW.

The funny thing is that Tsyplakov is doing everything we might have hoped Engvall would do, but isn't. He doesn't have the Engvalls get up, for sure, but he's better at everything else.

If he could learn to PK at the NHL level, he would round out as a complete player. No complaints from me about having him on the 2nd or 3rd line.
Don't think he'll ever be a PKer considering he's the one that spends the most time in the box, lol.

He is still technically a rookie. I would chaulk this season up to a learning curve. Interested to see how he does next year.

Other players we have making around 3M:

- Pierre Engvall (3M)
- Anthony Duclair (3.5M)
- Scott Mayfield (3.5M)
- Semyon Varlamov (2.75M)

Tsyplakov at 3M would be the least of our problems

Potential NHLers on Grand Rapids:

  • C Nate Danielson 9th overall 2023
  • G Sebastian Cossa 15th overall 2021
  • LD William Wallinder 32nd overall 2020
  • LD Shai Buium 36th overall 2021
  • LW Carter Mazur 70th overall 2021
  • C Amadeus Lombardi 113th 2022

Whewww Amadeus Lombardi, what a name. Young Mozart looks a little small for the NHL but how can you not love a name like Amadeus Mother f***ing Lombardi.

Anyway, that list doesn't really make a lot of sense. Half of them are going to be buyers at the deadline. Teams could also have been scouting players from the Phantoms.

But let's say it was definitely for Grand Rapids. We have about 5000 LD and goalie prospects right now, so hard to believe we'd be going after another, and for all of those teams to be there scouting it would make sense that Danielson would be the player that drew them.

Not super familiar but looks like he may have fallen off a tad since his draft year. Maybe the wings are dangling him at the deadline.
